It would be better for Americans if the FDA works with an open source AI company instead of OpenAI so that the AI decisions that impact Americans are transparent or alternatively OpenAI could make their algorithms open source 🇺🇸 High-ranking OpenAI employees have reportedly met with the FDA multiple times in recent weeks to discuss AI and a project called cderGPT to be used to help determine which medications are approved and which medications are rejected by the FDA. image

Stagflation: Why Retirees Should Care 🇺🇸 While the U.S. economy isn’t officially in a period of stagflation yet, signs are pointing in that direction. Also concerning is that if stagflation starts, it’s unclear how long it will last. “Stagflation is a double whammy for retirees, who now have to pay for things (via inflation) and likely have lower savings if the markets continue to do poorly,” says Blanchett. In periods of stagflation, it can be difficult for retirees to maintain their lifestyles without drawing more money from their retirement savings accounts. With stock markets down, retirees can no longer absorb inflation by relying on rising investment accounts as they did in the past, says Dann Ryan, managing partner at Sincerus Advisory. As a result, Ryan says retirees may need to pay more attention to how much they draw down from their retirement accounts; they should make sure they are closer to the 4% withdrawal rate during periods of stagflation. Retirees may also need to rein in their spending and adjust their lifestyle to cope with rising prices for goods and services. image

According to a new study from the Hoover Institution and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI, DeepSeek AI signals that the US is starting to lose its edge in cultivating top AI talent. 🇺🇸 The authors warn that the US is losing its status as a global magnet for top talent. The idea that the best minds will automatically want to stay in the US is outdated. To remain competitive, the US needs to step up its efforts to attract talent, develop targeted immigration strategies, and fund educating Americans to work in AI. image

Ready for stagflation? Here’s how the Trump tariffs could take us to stagflation. The U.S. economy is facing the first significant threat of stagflation since the 1970s. 🇺🇸Unfortunately, “stagflation does not have a clear answer,” according to Matthews. “It’s worse than a recession.” Matthews describes stagflation as the economy moving in two different directions at once. On the one side is inflation, where goods and services cost more money. On the other side is a slowing economy, where higher unemployment leads to lower discretionary spending. Unfortunately, in addition to the unforced error of Trump’s tariffs, our economy is also grappling with the chaos of how the tariffs have been implemented. “At a time like this, people don’t want to invest in the United States,” Matthews explains. “Companies don’t know where to build or invest or hire.” https://www.fastcompany.com/91326625/will-trumps-tariffs-lead-us-into-a-period-of-stagflation image

The CEOs of Walmart, Target, and Home Depot have reportedly warned the Trump Administration that they may have no choice but to pass some of the costs of the Trump tariffs on to American consumers. 🇺🇸 A wide range of products — from car tires to clothing, many of which are produced in China — have seen price hikes in recent weeks as retailers face increased costs due to tariffs. The Trump Administration still has no real plans or funding in place to bring jobs back to the United States. The main point of the tariffs seems to be for the federal government to collect money from Americans so that they can afford to give billionaires tax cuts by having Americans pay for them. image
