#GM everybody! Its a warm, humid and very overcast morning here in my part of the world, son woke up early, and made the decision that his parents also had slept enough. Well, "no rest for the wicked" I guess... After leaving the bed I decided its time to get more methodical regarding the #100pushups so I hit the floor and did 3 x 25 with about five minutes in between, after that I was quiet out of power, but a short cold shower and breakfast brought the energy back online. At my office the first thing I did was to hit the ground again (praise the single office!), managed to get 10 pushups done with proper form and finished the last 15 as desk pushups... well, I think technically that counts as 100. Plan now is to simply repeat everyday and work on better form.

One of those days where I consider to write a resignation letter... i work for this company for 9 years, and for eight of those years I have told them that the accumulated technology debt will bite them in the ass, eight years of telling them running 'mission critical' stuff on custom closed source software that was made by a company out of business for about 10 years, programmed by guys now retired or dead is a really bad idea... Well, it now bit them in the ass, and now its my problem again... 'find a creative solution' they told me... 'Give me free reign, a ton of money and keep our salespeople off my back' I told them back. Let's see how this turns out...

I just witnessed a cowboy (full on attire, from boots to big stetson) while buying lunch at the local grocery store... a bit unusual if you consider that I am working in a sleepy town in the midst of the hessian outback in Germany

Monday again, back to work, back to solving problems. Started today like the last few days by trying to approach the #100pushups , managed to reach 25 while son is laughing like crazy and trying to figure out what his dad does there on the floor. At least, there is progress #GM world!

A sunday (nearly) without the use of digital media, just my family, bicycles, healthy food, nature and a beautiful day in late summer... THIS is life

A striking difference between nostr and the fediverse I think can be observed in the attitude of its participants: While the fediverse can be a cozy and nice place, it is somewhat... melancholic(?), defeatist(?) ... i don't know... it occurs to me that the participants have arranged themselves with the status quo and try to find a secluded place where they can just find peace and be left alone The nostr community on the other hand seems to have this energetic "Gung ho" can-do vibe to form the world to be a nicer place... which I personally prefer #grownostr

So, wöchentliches "rund ums Haus" Programm erledigt, gegärtnert, repariert was zu reparieren war... jetzt gehts erstmal in einen hoffentlich entspannten Feierabend

#GM world! I wanted to join the #100pushups crowd, so I hit the ground after leaving the bed, managed to finish 12... with a giggling toddler sitting on my back

A good day (not only because its Friday): Did a good workout, began looking into Dart programming, sold my old motorcycle to a guy who just started riding (and put the resulting money into Bitcoin)... oh, and I bought a straight razor. I hope I manage to shave this evening without seppukuing myself.

Its always interesting to 'inherit' projects from colleagues leaving the company... especially if the deadline of those projects is rapidly closing in. Well, only two days left to the weekend, so its time to grab a coffee and start hacking. #GM world!

A thought that entered my mind on my train ride to work: ANCAPs have to be the demographic most resistant to the ideas of fascism / NAZIsm: I mean, is there anything an anarchocapitalist could despise more than a combination of a strong state and socialist ideas?

I am currently contemplating a bit how a society with a much smaller or no state at all would work in a particular situation my family is currently facing: My dad is 83 years old, and now, after having a short time of very bad luck (falling down stairs resulting in a complicated leg fracture, having after that a wound infection AND catching pneumonia) he is now recovering in a care facility for the elderly. He is now after a couple of months in much better shape and it looks like he will regain nearly the full mobility he had beforehand. Well... my family would normally not be able to afford this care. Even if my parents would spend the whole of their retirement income on the care for my dad there would still be a deficit of about 1000 € every month. This deficit is now taken care of by the German welfare system. Now I am thinking how this would have played out without taxes and a state... on the one hand the welfare system would not exist in this form, so no coverage in this way. On the other hand: With less taxation there would be much more money available to save / invest / buy insurance to cover a case like this on an individual base - I think... Hmmm...

I spend a few weeks away from Nostr and computer stuff in general to ride my bike, read, meditate and spend much more time with my family. It's just way too easy to lose yourself in the digital world and forget what really counts in life.

Today, while procrastinating, I tried out various options on the Surface tablet because I wasn't really happy with the way VanillaOS handled the high DPI display of the surface and it showed also some nasty stability issues... well, after trying out the usual suspects I finally settled with KDE neon. Why? KDE neon is in its core a mature Ubuntu LTS version which is tweaked by the creators of KDE to work perfectly with their desktop... and after spending now about 8 hours on real work in Zed and various other tools in it I can say with confidence: It totally lives up to its promise. It looks really nice, attaching and detaching from the dock works flawlessly, the scaling just fits... and it runs absolutely smooth even on the (by today's standards) humble configuration of the Surface.
