Today, while procrastinating, I tried out various options on the Surface tablet because I wasn't really happy with the way VanillaOS handled the high DPI display of the surface and it showed also some nasty stability issues... well, after trying out the usual suspects I finally settled with KDE neon. Why? KDE neon is in its core a mature Ubuntu LTS version which is tweaked by the creators of KDE to work perfectly with their desktop... and after spending now about 8 hours on real work in Zed and various other tools in it I can say with confidence: It totally lives up to its promise. It looks really nice, attaching and detaching from the dock works flawlessly, the scaling just fits... and it runs absolutely smooth even on the (by today's standards) humble configuration of the Surface.

Today is one of those low energy days where I do anything, just ANYTHING other than productive work on a project of which the due date is nearing... just squandering the time I should use to code. Yeah, I know this is stupid, but perhaps I just need that pressure of an rapidly approaching deadline build up a bit more to bring me back into the right mood to just grab my keyboard, put the knife between the teeth and grind on to finish that damn software...

Somewhat fascinating: I get more hungry sitting at a desk hammering code into the computer at weekdays than when I lift heavy furniture or do construction work at the weekend...

What do you do if you have a terrace where the tiles that were laid down in the 70s are now crumbling away but not much time to spare? Well, my answer to this question is artificial lawn. A Sunday afternoon later it now looks at least not THAT bad anymore. image

A thing that I don't understand is the recent excitement in the broader Bitcoin community about Trump... I mean, he is a politician who wants to be elected, of course he will talk positively about a thing that will bring him votes and donations. He (or his team) just calculated that being pro Bitcoin is at the moment more favorable than being against it, I don't believe he (or any other politician) will really embrace a technology which takes away control from the ruling class. Tldr: Politicians lie to get votes

A few days ago i got my hands on a Surface Pro 4 in near perfect condition for free and I couldn't resist to try out Linux on it... what can I say, its a perfect match with VanillaOS, very nimble and seems to be a good replacement for my ageing Thinkpad image

I don't know why, but every single time the state announces that it wants to protect me as a citizen more, I feel somewhat threatened...

Yeah, that was a good day... spend the day in Home office and, surprisingly, I had a good run. In the late afternoon my wife and I FINALLY, after a too long time under construction could now move our bed out of the attic into our real bedroom and our desks in the designated office rooms. Now, after about five years since we started to work on this old half timbered nightmare of a house it seems like we are somewhat in a place we can call "finished"...

My 'productivity circadian rhythm' is somewhat effed up: I have mayyyybe one or two hours in the morning where I have energy and 'the mood' to be really productive, followed by hours of somewhat dragging along until about early afternoon when the turbo kicks back in...

Well, another day gone, what had it brought? On a personal level: More energy than the last couple of days - which is good, a few little private successes. On a professional level: Finished a (sub-) project on time. Looks like a good moment to call it a day... and move in the general direction of the next available bed.

Today i went back to install and set up 9Front (a Plan 9 Fork) on my trusty old Thinkpad... my 'muscle memory' seemed still to work so I had a fully running workstation after about an hour. Now its time to expand the grid and build a complete Plan 9 network...

I make the following statement as a former member of the church of emacs (now living in apostase): VS Code is a damn fine code editor.
