Was ist passiert?

Just rediscover a site I frequented heavily in the 00s - early 10s, and which sparked my interest in electronic experiments (and fringe science):

Finally, after years I got the old Simson back on the street. Well, there is no smell like that of a two stroke engine ;-) image

It's somewhat possible that I am on my way to go full on tinfoil hat... i am today trying out how much I can really do anonymously on the net using only tails and... it works surprisingly well.

Very overcast warm and humid today... really not pleasant weather, especially not if you have to do construction work around the house. And especially not when you discover that the main spars off a shed near the house are rotting away and the shed itself is not far from a total collapse... Well, another item on the to do list.

A stateless workstation with EasyOS After reading the blog post of Solene (https://dataswamp.org/~solene/2024-04-20-workstation-going-stateless.html) back in april the thought of recreating something like her setup lingered in my mind. With #EasyOS as Live Distribution I had now the ideal tool at hand. What is my goal? Well, to put it simple: A workstation that is in the same state on any reboot. Think about how things were back in the C64 days. So, what did I do? I installed #EasyOS on a new USB stick, configured it the way I liked it and installed the necessary software I need locally. I will access a few web services I had already running at pikapods (https://pikapods.com): - Pydio cells for data storage - Gitea for my development - Shiori for bookmark management - WeKan for task management I already use Bitwarden as password manager, bit I am already looking for an local alternative. After I had everything configured in EasyOS it was just a matter of selecting "Lockdown in RAM" at the shutdown option menu and selecting "permanent" in the option to tell the system to copy everything to RAM at the next reboot and unmount the stick. From this moment on my system is at every reboot in the same state - until I select at boot that I want to back into a mutable state (e.g. to install additional software)

Perhaps its morally not right to somewhat enjoy the fall of the Bitcoin price over the last days... but I see it as an opportunity for many folks who missed the "cheap times" to take a slightly less steep onramp. I, for one, will surely make use of it.

Finally time to clock off. My feeling this morning was right, it was a good day, one of those days where you finish old stuff and accumulate new ideas and insights. As I have written in my last notes I have finished today some tasks that were long overdue and I also did, in a way, cut a few more ties to something I call my "old life"... a life where I was somewhat stuck in a past long gone. So, while wife and son are already asleep I will spend the next hour or so with a glass of wine, a book and generally happy thoughts. image

12:00 and it seems like this is one of those days where I get things DONE. Finished some small but long overdue tasks, finally updated the documentation on a project... for the moment I am happy.

The day starts with heavy rain and dark clouds, junior is awake since 05:30 and tries his best to wake up his parents too. Everything (besides the very active toddler in extremely good mood) is calling for a long cozy morning in bed. Alas... its time to get up, I somehow have the feeling that this is going to be a good day.

Oookay, the company website I am working on requires JavaScript to look modern, BUT I could at least manage to make it fully functional without it. Good for the clear conscience.

Back in the office, I still quarantine myself in my office and have let the others know that it would be nice (for them) if they leave me alone the next days until I am fully recovered. One may ask: Why go back to the office while not fully recovered? Well, I have still tons of (highly interesting for myself) projects to finish and I am feeling fine - if you exclude that my mouth still hurts as hell if I talk or eat.

After now spending about equal time on nostr and on the fediverse (about a year) I think i can make a somewhat educated observation: The fediverse is WAY more likely to self censor and has a way narrower corridor of acceptable opinions which leads to a bit of a echo chamber... a more cozy one, but an echo chamber nonetheless. Nostr on the other hand is more... uhm... "unrefined", but in my personal opinion it feels much more alive. I think I will peek back into the fediverse now and then, but nostr is definitively my "new permanent home".

My wife is my savior: A paste of Thai basil, tons of garlic and sesame oil did more to lessen the pain of the "Hand Mouth Foot Disease" blisters in my mouth than anything the local pharmacy had to offer... I would say this is a win for Vietnamese home remedies...

After a heavy thunderstorm with hail and whatnot now everything is back to calm, now much more pleasant summer weather without the humid warmth we had before image
