As a child, the idea of a bank seemed incredible. They held my money safe, eliminating the risk of carrying it with me a small fee seemed a fair price for this peace of mind. In this view, banks are neutral financial institutions. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Banks have a complex history of being entangled with social injustice. The Bank of England stole Czech gold and handed it over to Nazi Germany. Barclays profited from South Africa apartheid and are again profiting from Israel. Banks enabled Epstein's crimes. In the EU you are not allowed to pay more than 10k cash so if you want to buy a house or car you need a bank account. Essentially you are forced to fund these institutions which are committing terrible crimes, and you cannot opt out. I truly hope that Bitcoin can help against these evils.
LingQ sent an email reminder to get back to language learning. If I start they will give me 50 'coins'. If those coins were sats I would be more encouraged to learn! Can some one build a language app that you can load with sats and work to get them back?
