Looking for real world usage feedback on the performance of https://nostr.af please let us know. We have latency based DNS for it like Relayable uses. Is in Los Angeles, Montreal, and Helsinki data centers. It is a customized Snort install. π€

# From Global Relay Network to Global Nostr Nodes

I have just finished deploying a new bare metal server in Sydney, Australia to complete the Version 2 of the Relayable Relay Network. With lessons learned from Version 1 that has been up for the last 6+ months. When I first started this project it was to improve the architecture and design of relays to be more highly available (HA) and redundant in terms of data storage in many geographic locations.
With the finalizing of Version 2 of the network many improvements have been made.
## Some include:
- Faster strfry (relay software) performance
- Better syncing of data across geographic regions
- Better syncing of configurations and site content
A big change is the move away from a singular cloud provider to a more heterogeneous model with 80% of relays not being on AWS or any cloud provider. With numerous backbone providers.
The biggest change is we're leveraging our network of servers to start offering other free services to nostr users. Including the addition of a customized version of Snort in each geographic region we have a relay. This is under the domain name of [nostr.af](https://nostr.af), the web client by default has relayable's relay network if not logged in. Allowing users to see our truly global feed. Once logged in you will have your usual list of relays you currently use.
Another is the addition of our SimpleX Chat servers:

xftp://yC6U2VvP9EtYkTdbtvENiqhHazG4yQ8lZ9qDS0JKwuE=@xftp.nostr.af
```
We'll soon be adding our own CDN using our existing global network to help bolster nostr and help in the growth and decentralization of the network.
Thanks to everyone who has donated to Relayable. You make it possible to provide these free services and keep them free and accessible to everyone! [https://donate.relayable.org](https://donate.relayable.org) V4Vβ‘οΈ
What do you do when you have a global network of servers for nostr relays?!
You add a Snort #nostr web client to each one and use the same latency based routing already in place for it! https://nostr.af
If not logged into the client will see a realtime Global feed for Relayable. Once sign-in will be your usual relay list.
Then you setup public Simplex SMP/XFTP servers.
We fixed it! ππ€£β‘
We will never block or sensor any adult oriented content that is legal (and not spam). Relayable supports freedom of speech and expression. But we do recommend tagging with #nsfw and as sensative content to help those not wanting to see it.
If anyone needs clarification or has any questions feel free to ask here or DM us. #nostr #grownostr #pornstr #relay #relayable
It's true. ππ«
We have added a new Los Angeles (US) relay to the network. As well as updated our site. To add onto the previous update.
FUN FACT: July 1st to 15th each relay has used an average of 2 Terrabytes of bandwidth. π€
Reminder, tomorrow @jascha will be chatting with @Derek Ross about Relayable and scaling relays while helping users to create their own micro-relays. Along with other related topics. Post any questions you may have and he will answer them on the @npub1us9u...q4g0 7pm EDT Thursday! π
We have updated our unofficial strfry docker container to 0.9.2 now available on Docker Hub. #strfry #relay #relayable
https://hub.docker.com/r/relayable/strfry
docker pull relayable/strfry:latest
Not long after we added our new Montreal server was when a wave of spam that came upon #nostr relays. Since this node is one of our streaming nodes we recieved and filtered the other relays as well. Servers never got above 25% CPU utilization. #relayable #relay
