I get that, and it’s valid, but the downside is that that “hope” is precisely why so many poor people squander so much money on lotteries. (Here in Florida some will try to swap their food stamps for money to buy them.)

Cyrus Beschloss (Michael’s boy), the founder of The Generation Lab, which surveys and analyzes young people aged 18 to 34, says that 29% of that demo is supporting Wormhead.
Gulp. If that’s even close to true, I need a kiss, because we’re about to get very fucked.

So, Stormy Daniels trained as an Equestian. I wonder if playing horsie with Trump led to that.
@npub1lslw...9c2x Could there be more method to this madness than it appears? Could Jack and Elon be planning a Twitter/NOSTR venture to compete with the emerging Threads/Fediverse ecosystem?
@npub192y0...ta6x: “It’s just for show. A form of professional wrestling. We already know that Trump signed off on the foreign aid package. That’s what allowed Johnson to move forward. MTG’s job is to make it look like MAGA is mad about what happened.”
What Threads chooses to show me is just bonkers. I don’t think anyone can really figure out what it’s algos are doing. This is why the centralized algo model is just an evil thing we must crush, whether with BlueSky’s PDS, or an ActivityPub answer to it. As soon as there is one.
I got home just in time to see Chris Jansing have a religious epiphany as she watched the #eclipse.
Does anyone know of a topical anesthetic, prescription or OTC, that can numb incision pain that just doesn’t want to stop burning when pressed on by my airboot? I need some relief.
I don’t know where teachers would point students to see examples of respectable social discourse, if that even occurred to them as something worth pointing to. We have so few norms left standing, I am not sure anyone even cares much that our society is unraveling before our very eyes.
Social media without quoted posts is like liquor without alcohol. It just doesn’t have the same impact on me. I am still mystified about why anyone strenuously defends their absence. It sounded reactionary the first time I heard the objections, and it’s never gotten better since.
I have to say, that anyone that doesn’t see the creative possibilities of chatGPT probably isn’t a creative person. It continues to astonish me how good it is at learning my creative instincts and expressing my ideas in clear and even creative ways. It all comes down to the prompt: just how you ask the question.
I’m still annoyed by this whole “bloodbath” thing. The issue for me had nothing to do with Trump’s intent, nor a herd press’s ability to dress-down his violent rhetoric and stochastic terror. It’s simply about shitty journalism that shifted the focus to the wrong thing. The story is NOT what he blithers in any one context, but WHY he uses such terms at all, and who he’s aiming them at. Anything else is lazy storytelling that just serves to widecast his tropes to more of them, en masse.
Did you ever notice how the “media” or “press” is often said to be complicit with oligarchs and fascists, but individual journalists almost never are? I suppose that’s because the first rule of Fight Club…

I am so tired of Donald Trump just squeaking by. If any human being has ever deserved to take a massive and crippling fall, it’s him.
Just because my 2024 doesn’t suck enough having my foot in an airboot while dealing with covid and Paxlovid-mouth, my neighbor’s swimming pool permit must have come through because the steam shovels just showed up. And I just don’t look this good in these ear fashions.

Uh-oh.I think I’m catching up to my sister’s symptoms. I’m suddenly sneezing and sniffling constantly. I’m telling you, having covid is just not as much fun as I was led to believe.
Here in Florida Publix has about 14 meals ready to eat. All but one of them is pretty bad. I just don’t understand it. it can’t be that complicated
Do you ever wonder if this country is ever going to be able to find consensus about anything again? It sure doesn’t look that way. And gifted writers and social analysts are so few and far between, I think the best of our civilization is slipping away without much significant comment.
I find it hard to believe that major grocery chains haven’t fully realized that meals ready to eat are a sector they can own, if they’d just a produce decent variety of meals at a reasonable price. Without the delivery charge overhead, they’d have a major market advantage
Hey educators over 50. You’ve seen a few student bodies in your time. Are you finding students today are fully engaged in learning, or are they just going through the motions in the hope that it lands them a decent career? Was it much different early in your career?
