Decentralization befuddles many. But standardization of methods and protocols has driven society to where it is today. The idea of a single social media carrier was always ridiculous on its face, but the culture of big tech kept that self-evident truth quiet for too long. Can we please not make that same mistake again? All social networks seeking general consumers should be supporting at least activityPub now. There will be others. From them, new standards can emerge.

Good morning. I may even mean it. Another cup of coffee is required before I risk it.

This argument that we’re overreacting to MAGAs and trump is so mind numbingly stupid, I want to punch anyone advancing it. There is no way to watch this unprecedented Christo fascism seizing all of norms and governance, even the rule of law itself, and not see that democracy is in dire and immediate peril.

Good afternoon. South Florida is under water again. We think of torrential rains and flooding like this as training wheels for sea-level rise.

Hey lawyers, does “suspending” a political campaign have any significant implications, legal, financial, or otherwise? Or is it just thought of as better than telling supporters, “Fuck this, I’m out.”

That’s been tried again and again. The problem is, progressives are some of the laziest political activists there are. Most don’t do anything at all no matter how big the threat (pro-abortion excluded). And they sure don’t like to sacrifice much. The cables simply don’t care. They have weathered several actions already. Only hammering sponsors works. That’s all that ever works. But we don’t do that well either. I speak from experience. Source: … image

Not depressed enough? This may help. I’ve been warning that the Senate map for 2024 was a trainwreck coming on. And that was before Manchin’s announcement. This is a break-glass crisis if we don’t stop wasting time on unicorns and grievance votes. We need to stop pretending anything but a Democratic wave can save this foundering democracy. So save the cranky idealism for 2028 or 32. This ain’t the time for fantasies. image

I’ve watched Republicans for too much of my life. Do you know what those men in this debate are probably thinking about right now? What Nikki Haley looks like naked.

Poor Chris Christie. His political career was over years ago, and he just hasn’t figured that out yet.

Vivek Ramaswindle could be the least likeable person any party has come up with in my lifetime. And that’s an achievement.

@npub1g8ew...qdqf @npub1lslw...9c2x In other news, Extwitter seems to have quit some or all of its shadow bans. 3 of us who have had zero visibility for years are popping up to our followers again. Like a switch got flipped. Will it last? #shrug. It might be a server breakdown :) image

I’m finally approaching 500 followers on Bluesky. And I didn’t even have to buy a single one. This whole social media bingo card thing was so unnecessary. It’s just too bad government didn’t build Twitter. It would have been more open, accountable, and always evolving. Sure worked for the Internet.
