@jb55 I was wondering is #notedeck going to be able to support a relay-centric moderated community column? I am thinking of a column scoped to a specific relay with auth and supporting either hodlbod's [NIP](https://github.com/coracle-social/nips/blob/relay-chat/xx.md) or NIP29.
I see issue #376 that single-relay column is planned ideed but what about functionality related to semi-closed groups? Is this perhaps possible with #nostrscript -enabled columns?
Context:
I am exploring possible options to create a discord-like space on nostr where I can hang out with Freedom Tech builders.
So far #flotilla seems to be my best bet from @hodlbod but it is not optimized for easy and performant widgets that I need to have the best possible nostr experience tweaked to perfection for me and members. I would just share the required columns for the group and they could add it to their nostr experience.
The discussion in my relay would be moderated but it can exist alongside whatever ppl prefer to add for themselves.

"Our system gives creators ownership. With Substack, you have your own property to build on: content you own, a URL of your choosing, a website for your work, and a mailing list of your subscribers that you can export and take with you at any time.
You also get a clear way to generate income that goes directly to you and is more reliable than fluctuating ad revenue or other third-party deals. Instead of chasing viral hits and algorithm changes, you can build sustainable income through direct support from your most engaged followers."
...Well. We don't agree on the definition of ownership. And a few other things
The narrative that "we are shitposting our way to a web of trust" is false.
Nostr is useful so far *despite* having a social media aspect.
And if anything, the more you shitpost the more likely I will unfollow you.
Perhaps in this case shitposting does help... removing irrelevant people from my life.
It is a proof of irrelevance.
So all you shitposters please keep revealing yourselves. Helps keeping my house clean.

## Why I am sidelining DVMs for now
When I started to grow tired of random posts on nostr I had a plan to create a DVM to tackle the problem of noise. I wanted a feed that caters to people like me in it for the professional discussions and meaningful FOSS work.
I used the LLM approach because simple hashtag parsing can only do so much. First I thought I would fine-tune a BERT-like model that should be easier to self-host. It turned out to be a harder goal to achieve than I expected.
I wanted to use GPT4-o to help me generate data for the fine-tuning. Sadly that was a bummer. It screwed me over so many times with garbage, I got exhausted.
Then I downloaded a bunch of high-rated stackexchange posts to be clustered and used for the fine-tuning.
This already took me more time than I wanted and realized that for a PoC I might as well use openai api. So did that and started experimenting with different prompts for GPT4-o mini.
In the meantime I got acquainted with the python based nostr-dvm framework and setup the basics I need for a DVM service.
After some grind I got everything working but still was not very pleased with the classification results.
Now, I know I could have put in even more time to really nail that prompt but I kinda lost my faith and appetite. I successfully use AI to learn and generate rudimentary code and chat about ideas. But what I needed is to generate a feed without manual intervention. AI people tend to recommend techniques to improve results that are borderline witchcraft. And every single time GPT finds a way to hallucinate plenty of stuff that I did not expect, no matter how hard I seem to try. This is my experience from months of daily interaction with GPT4-o too, which is much better than the mini version.
So no, I won't get trapped in the ai hype again. It is what it is: without human oversight these things are still worthless. I'm not aiming for a 90% usable thing, and I don't have a straightforward way to get to a 100%. No one has because these stochastic models are not AIs at all. They are mimicking parrots, nothing more. And this direction is a dead-end if you ask me.
All in all to customize a high-quality feed I tend to agree now that something like #nostrscript seems to be the better way to go from @jb55 .
It has the human element but is enhanced with the right tech to be much more than just picking hashtags to follow.
We might see a bunch of better use-cases for DVM-s but this is my overall sentiment right now.

Lex Friedman:
"GitHub is... basically a place where developers go to be happy. And to collaborate and to share and to build. Especially for people who are part of the open-source world."
I think they go there because they have to. Another centralized silo but this time it's more pernicious and problematic than the usual social media platforms.
It's not about code. Git servers are all over the place. It's about the social coordination around that code. Social interactions are vital to keep a project going. And it is all captured in GitHub which can rugpull you anytime.
PR-s, issues, comments and discussion threads.
All belongs to Microsoft who owns GitHub. And we have been feeding this beast for ages now.
Do you know what else belongs to Microsoft? LinkedIn. It is a platform most likely substantially bigger than X (actually it was taken private years ago) and it controls how most work.
If you haven't been checking what is going on in LinkedIn nowadays (good for you I guess) just out of curiousity, please do. You will be shocked.
I believe nostr can break this diabolic situation. We can make these platforms obsolete. At least for the freedom-minded. That's what I'm aiming for.
I am looking forward to the day when I can use short-post-based nostr exclusively in my chosen relay-centric communities in an app like #Flotilla .
Too much noise in nostr-kind1 already. DVMs and hashtags help but not silver bullets. Perhaps if they are scoped to communities they could do more.
I also am quite skeptical towards the potential success of other social media type of app-clones too.
One thing is that catering to normies will not pay off well I think.
On the other hand, I don't believe anyone can achieve sustainable success by recreating essentially the same legacy experience with a sprinkle of decentralization on top.
It's not just the tech. It's also about carefully selecting your audience.
I like your positive vision on how nostr apps can replace the incumbent centralized players. Now my constructive criticism:
1. I don't believe nip05 will play an important role in the trust model between stakeholders. Domain names are shitcoins and anything built on them is easily corruptible. Quality web of trust algos will take into account plain nostr events from npubs the _current_ user trusts.
2. I think the data will always be "mined". Nostr merely allows for a more open market fostering competition. There will be everything from anything on the spectrum. There will be ads, kyc and all that BUT there will be more freedom-minded solutions on the other end of the spectrum too. However when there's more competition, even the less-aligned apps need to offer a better experience than before
Thanks for this!
