I couldn’t resist shooting this pic this morning when I saw it out my south door. The constellation Orion. Including the 9th brightest star in the night sky at the top left, Betelgeuse, 498 light years from Earth. It is also a massive star, with a radius around 1,400 times larger than that of our Sun. If Betelgeuse were placed at the center of our solar system, its surface would extend beyond the orbit of Mars. Betelgeuse is predicted to explode as a supernova in the near future, astronomically speaking. While it's difficult to predict exactly when this will happen, estimates suggest it could occur within the next 100,000 years. When it does, the explosion will be visible from Earth, even during the day, and will be one of the most significant astronomical events in human history. #astronomy #grownostr
