Yesterday was challenging, a curt rejection from an unsolicited pitch and they didn’t even look at our work. Today was the opposite. Thought I’d solicit some feedback on art drops from the #artstr community here. Each month we unveil a new limited release #photography print in a medium-form post on Substack. We have grown our mailing list from 0 to 500 in under two years (many of these will be other artists). In the post we share some context to the work and process when relevant. The prints are open edition, signed, made-to-order and available for 7 days only, after which it’s unavailable for at least a year. Various sizes are available, and custom requests are possible. The idea here of course is to create some anticipation and motivate someone who likes the work to move quickly if they want to order a print. Our newsletter/Substack is the primary place where we share the link to the art drop page on our website. We want to encourage people who like our work to join our list to be notified when a new art drop is published. So the pitch is essentially ‘join our newsletter for access to our art drops that are only open for 7 days. Otherwise you might miss out on a piece you really like.’ We are always wondering how to adjust the concept, other than continually striving to create good work.
