"Bitcoin won't be adopted like the iPhone because it's cool. It will be adopted like gunpowder. If you don't own it, you'll be it's victim." Saifedean Ammous Hola! Since our visit to the next stop - the gated community of San Miguel - our time was mostly spent recovering from sickness. That's the reason updates have been a bit slow. I've been doing a lot of reading and I also think I agree with Saifedean. What about you? ๐Ÿค” Included in the days that followed in La Union was a trip to SurfCity 2, where we've spotted a lot of 'Bitcoin accepted' signs! In the city itself not so much though, and we ended up paying our bill in FIAT at the only restaurant on BTC-map 'Amanecer Marino', but... the food was great! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Now we're already a few days in Perquin, where Bitcoin acceptance is also very limited. A place that's not on the map, but where you can get a great view and pay for your burger in Sats is Foresto Restaurant. One to definitely go and check out! โœ”๏ธ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ #LowTimePreference image

Over there we had a good chat with Pierre. He is one of those Bitcoiners that now lives almost completely on a Bitcoin #Standard, so that's pretty cool to hear. I'm curious what they will make of this hide-away gem! ๐Ÿ›  What we also usually do not talk about is stomach issues, but here we are. It tied me to our 'Bitcoin-BnB' El Compita - with a really amazing view๐Ÿ˜ - the past few days. Still, we did manage to do some sports training and it gave me valuable time to catch up on my reading. We also did go for a visit to the โ€œThe Emerald of Americaโ€, better known as 'Laguna de Alegria'. It was a pretty rocky road to get there with our rental car, but definitely a beautiful spot to visit! ๐Ÿ’ซ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ #Activities #Reading image

"It is going to be the question of what the priorities are in this country!?" Jon Atack Morning! The most inspiring talk on Day 1 of Economia, Berlin, for me, came from this Bitcoin #Core developer๐Ÿ“ฌ and builder of his own house (without cutting down 1 living tree ๐ŸŒด) near the town of Tamanique. Meanwhile the town of Berlin, where we'll spent the next few days, is becoming a remarkable Bitcoin haven, with a festival complete with marching fanfare band and majorettes. Brilliant! "Movement is change of perspective..." Monika Bravo Buenos diaz! In the hotel Finquita San Nicolas I could not enter our room with the electronic key after a bill for 1,65$ dollar for two extra buns at breakfast was still open to pay. Bizarre! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Other than that it was a pretty good spot for attending the 'Adopting Bitcoin' congress, only 15 minutes with an Uber! ๐Ÿ’ซ At Bitcoin (Centro) Historico 21.000 Pupusa's were given away for free, helicopters ($250) were flying to the Salamanca congres centre and we met with friends from the Netherlands. Few of the highlights of Adopting were meeting all kinds of people, exploring the booths in the central hall and attending the talk with Valentin Popescu and Alexandra Navarro on stage talking about indigenous tribes in #Peru. They are using Bitcoin as a tool for sovereignty, education, and empowerment! I also enjoyed talks from Monika Bravo and Michael Ruiz, but everything can be rewatched via the livestream! โœ”๏ธ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„ #AdoptingBitcoin image

Hola! Did you know? In 1854 there was an earthquake that totally destroyed San Salvador. 'A decision was made to rebuild the capital six miles to the west of the ruined city on land belonging to the 'Hacienda Santa Tecla' that was purchased by the government' (Source Telegram!). The Nueva San Salvador - or as we now call it Santa Tecla - is where we witnessed our very first earthquake! It was a small one, but its quite a interesting moment when the whole room starts shaking! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜… Step by step there's more adoption. Claro, the Latin American telecommunications company, did not accept our creditcard, but did accept... Bitcoin! That's why I now have a phone with a Salvadoran number, to go and visit 'Adopting Bitcoin' coming days. I'm curious to explore the congress. Just like on this very cool slide - which you can find on the way back from a great view (you've really got to go and see by yourself!) at 'El Boqueron National Park' - I think I'll just go with the flow! ๐Ÿ’ซ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„ #AdoptingBitcoin image

"To the Indian, private and individual ownership of land was as meaningless as private ownership of the sky, the weather, or the sea." David Browning - El Salvador Landscape and society ยฟQuรฉ ubole? We've visited Joya de Cerรฉn and San Andrรฉs both in one day, taking the public bus from Santa Tecla. The total cost of our transportation was about 5 dollars - for two persons - nice! In San Andrรฉs the guard at the entrance was willing to accept Bitcoin, but unfortunately his phone thought otherwise, but it will come! ;) The great thing about Joya is that it shows how normal people lived amongst the Mayan culture, and not just the elite as in other touristic places. Their society was far more developed than once thought. I'm curious to find out what new #LIDAR discoveries will teach us. The great thing about Bitcoin is that both 'normal people' and 'the elite' can participate! What do you think? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Happy to read along your thoughts. Hi y'all! At the Bitcoin Farmers market we've met a fellow Dutchman who started a Salvadoran bakery business called SeaSide Sourdough. Although seven dollars for a sourdough bread seems a bit on the expensive side to us, we did enjoy it! ๐Ÿ˜‹ In the taxiride to Tamanique, Juan our cab driver shared he was deported by #ICE after living 22 years in #NewYork! He is back now and sleeps in his car - is our guess - since he really doesn't have any place to go. The whole process took about a week for him. Pretty amazing to have a chat. We hope he'll get his life back together. ๐Ÿ™ Our guide Arie on our way to the waterfalls (of Tamanique) shares that now the gangs are gone the most worrysome problem is rising prices. He also tells us that its mostly young people who get into fysical trouble when climbing down and up the mountain, which we thought was quite surprising. Apparently our youth are not in good shape! BTW, all these people do accept Bitcoin for payments! ๐Ÿ”ฅ #RutaDeBitcoin๐ŸŒŠ #Inflation #Dollar image

Good day all! The alternative plan (instead of the hot laundry shed๐Ÿฅต) turned out to be a very cool penthouse amongst the palm trees.๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ˜Ž We've spent a couple of days there with a bunch of American surfers on their favorite spot: Lote44 in El Zonte! It was very interesting to take them to the meetup too. Afterwards we've had a good talk. Only dad needed a bit of updating on the developments actually, but in our conversations I - once again - noticed most people look at Bitcoin from their own #Personal level, while they should keep in mind that there are more ways to analyse such a #Complex issue in a fast changing #Global world. ๐Ÿค” Yes, I've visited the Bitcoin HardWare store for a mini-class (in Spanish) and we've made a quick visit to the Bitcoin Farmers market. Very inspiring! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Now we are at Playa Majahual, next to the touristy El Tunco beach ๐Ÿ“ธ. It's the place where some dangerous natural swimming pools on the rocks are being pounded on by majestic waves. Stay safe! ๐ŸŒŠ #SurfCity #Levels #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ image

Dear Wallet of Satoshi. Oops, it happened again! ๐Ÿค• We had a marvelous dinner at street venue 'Tres Olas' in El Zonte, El Salvador and of course, we chose to pay our bill with Bitcoin. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Unfortunately, the flyer to scan the QR-code we used before was not available and our hostess typed the amount on her phone. Before we knew it, our transaction was sent and oopsie. Apparently we have sent a BTC #OnChain transaction, instead of a recommended Lightning one. This costs us 8$ dollars - 8.368 #Sats - in transaction fees. ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿซฃ So, yes, its a mistake - and maybe some education is needed on our and the owners end, but we would rather have the transaction process flow a bit more smoothly, so we won't have to worry about sending the wrong transaction. What if we could just find a solution for this problem so others won't go through the same predicament? What do you think? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Ps. Wallet of Satoshi got this mail and refunded our fees. Appreciated! ๐Ÿ™ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„ #Wallet #TransactionFees image

Buenos Dias from El Zonte, El Salvador, woehoeee! We've checked and verified and the Satoshi Nakamoto #Statue is really there, near Bitcoin Beach.โœ”๏ธ So good to be back in this exciting town, which changed a bit since our visit last year. A few new stores and places to check out! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Also, below the last post we saw a first contribution in the chat.๐ŸŽ‰ Tnx for your participation. Because of that share I've now listened for the second time in my life to Max Keiser in a podcast, since... I also met Jethro Toro at the Bitcoin Hardware store who just interviewed Max and Stacey together. If I understand correctly for Max Bitcoin has been a spiritual awakening and a #Renaissance for us all awaits. Can't say I disagree! ๐Ÿ’ซ Honestly though, about some parts of the conversation I'm a bit more sceptical, but no need to get into that now. We both agree Bitcoin will change people for the better. Owh yeah. Thanks Max for the drink, we've enjoyed it a lot! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿน #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„ #Religion #Transformation image

"The reason why El Salvador is Bitcoin-Only - and hasn't gone down the altcoin-route - is because of Max & Stacey." (1.05.25) Jimmy Song Buenos! Since it didn't rain so much last days we were able to visit the Walter Thilo Deininger National Park for a cool hike and... yes, the 2X10$ entrance ticket was paid for with Bitcoin! โœ”๏ธ Also. I was listening to this podcast about Bitcoin Historico, the exclusive event taking place on 12&13 November in San Salvador, which I won't be attending. The entrance ticket for 350$ is way too expensive for me. Luckily its 21$ for locals - which is also quite a lot for many people here. I'll be attending the Adopting Bitcoin conference a day later though! ๐ŸŽ‰ So. I came across this remarkable quote from Jimmy. Do Max Keiser and his wife Stacey Herbert have that much influence? And.. is the government really banning altcoin-projects from establishing in the country and is that the way to go? Hey y'all! I just had to share this. The map you see is a compiled and modified image from a couple of photo's we took of the spectacular relief-map outside the military museum in San Salvador. Unfortunately this is a reduced version of the image that doesn't do it justice, but you might still get the point. El Salvador is a country in between mountains and vulcanos. ๐ŸŒ‹ Its pretty cool to see the real thing and gives a great overview of the country. Of course you can find similar maps online too to get a good grasp... ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽ“ Also we've made our first Bitcoin-payment in the supermarket SuperSelectos. ๐ŸŽ‰ What I've noticed? It's very important that staff is educated well and that the Lightning Button is clicked on the screen (please double-check!! โœ”๏ธ) so the right QR-code appears. Obviously it is very important to check this, otherwise you might pay a lot in transaction fees and are possibly waiting half an hour before the transaction is confirmed. ๐Ÿ˜œ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ #Maps #OverView image

Hola Gente. We're still enjoying life in the 'Port of Freedom' and trying to get some work done. We're also aiming for the perfect surf photo. That's not so easy though! Last days I've tried to buy a newspaper too, but apparently that's even harder. So.. I've read some of the old ones again that I've brought from the capital. ๐Ÿ˜… Yesterday I came across a interesting article about the 'Gota a gota..'-system, basically a predatory loan-scheme. I've read the U.N. report and ".. these operations are typically run by Colombian networks, with reports indicating they launder money from drug trafficking and target vulnerable populations." If people can't pay, they might even end up as drug mules. Its a decentralized system with multiple local networks and 'has been normalized as a socially accepted financial option'. Wow! ๐Ÿคจ Yes, I believe there's a good chance there'll be Bitcoin #Apps that will fix this problem for the #Unbanked one day. At the moment a lot of roadworks are being done. Big trucks pass us on our way to the supermarket. #SurfCity is 'under construction' and the Chinese are helping out! Hola mi gente! We've been walking around #SanSalvador for a week now and there's a lot to share. Of course, we've first checked whether the Bitcoin bookcase was really installed at #Binaes and yes, it is - two of them actually - with all kinds of great books of well- and less-known Bitcoin authors. We've spotted Little Hodler too. Very cool!!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ”ฅ What I've also noticed? The #Chivo kiosks are still there, plus people really seem to get more used to paying with Bitcoin. Yes, there was some panic at the SuperSelectos supermarket, after I accidently got a Bitcoin instead of a Lightning payment and it took about half an hour to verify. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ We've visited the Guns N'Roses concert in Jorge 'El Magico' Gonzalez-stadium, payed our respects at 'Cemeterio de los Illustres', went for a search after Gerardo Barrios and spent time at the National Palace and the Military museum. Dรกndole peso a unos besos ("Giving Weight to Some Kisses") Ivรกn Argote Buenos diaz! The big stone replaces the former statue of the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jimรฉnez de Quesada, founder of the city, which was toppled by members of the Misak indigenous community! In the background on the right you can see a glimpse of the black-market Emerald stone traders. On the left you can spot some Cambio-stores, places where you can easily exchange your dollars, or euros, for Colombian pesos. I do wonder how all these stores can survive. Probably not a coincidence that the Coca-trade is still very much alive and kicking? ๐Ÿคจ We've spent a beautiful day in Bogota. We went up the mountain to Monserrate early. In the afternoon we enjoyed a city tour, starting from the Gold Museum. In the evening we played a game of Tejo, but at none of these places we could pay with Bitcoin! Morning all. We are getting closer to our departure from Schiphol. I can happily share that I've now orangepilled a first company, called Bendito, a cozy little coffee gem in our neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Seems like a great one to start our central-American journey with. 'Blessed'! ๐Ÿ˜‡ We fully expect it will be the first of many in a global boom of Bitcoin-powered businesses popping up all over the world. The question that I'm wondering about, is '.. how fast will that happen?' My hope is that it'll be gradually. We'll encounter some interesting new people, stores and stories along our way, but we'll have to wait and see to discover what the Universe will have in store for us. Hi all! Take a look at the new San Miguelito farmers market in San Salvador.๐Ÿ“ฌAs some of you might know, I believe Bitcoin can be analysed on different levels. Seeing how it develops from a #Community #Perspective gives us a completely different report compared to seeing it from a #National perspective, but in the end... Bitcoin does not care! This will be the main insight that I'll try to work out in the book I'm planning to write. Nayib Bukele has a lot of interesting things to share too. I will try and learn to see the development of the country from his perspective! โœ”๏ธ The main quest of our journey will be the search for a 21st Century #BitcoinCity. What does that look like? What is life like for the people in such a place? "Public #Property must be better than private property," I hear Nayib say. I believe this vision provides us with a lot of food for thought. What do you think? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Happy to read and learn along with your thoughts. Enjoy the week! ๐Ÿ™ #RutaDeBitcoin๐Ÿ„#ABC #NayibBukele #Market image

Hi! On our quest through Bitcoinland we want to take a look at various aspects of the developments in the country. We'll have to discover what those aspects are during our journey. I hope we can learn a bit more about the type of education, for instance, that is being implemented in the years to come. I'm also always very curious what #Books students and others are enjoying reading! ๐Ÿ“šโœ”๏ธ Nayib Bukele knows that introducing discipline at schools will work in favour of the country in the longrun. Uniforms in schools are obligatory and the 'Edgar haircut' is strictly forbidden. And most of all he wants Salvadoran students to be polite: โ€œGood morning, โ€œThank youโ€ and โ€œPlease.โ€ are part of the curriculum and I can't say I disagree. It's a lot better than having kids be recruited by #Gangs or joining the army like they used to do, right? What do you think? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Happy to read along with your thoughts.
