TIL in 2017 a couple survived a wildfire in California by jumping into a neighbors pool and staying submerged for 6 hours. They came up for air only when they needed to, using wet t-shirts to shield their faces from falling embers.

TIL Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Mexico and Chile do not punish prisoners for attempting to or successfully escaping prison as long as they don't break other laws while doing so.

People are just learning it's legal to break out of jail in these countries due to a bizarre law
Breaking out of prison without committing any other crime in doing so goes unpunished in several countries across the globe

TIL of shell cordovan, a rare "leather" that isn't made from animal skin, but connective tissue from a horse's buttocks. Shoes made from them are waterproof, don't crease, don't require polishing, and can last indefinitely. Only two major tanneries make them.
