Hardcover acquired and added to the library. Brilliant book. The foreword by Salatin is in true Salatin form “chicken nuggets in the shape of Dino the Dinosaur is not a muscle group on a chicken”

A couple of these done yesterday. This one in particular took WAY longer than I care to admit. The fates were having none of it. Broken welds, forgotten tools, long trips back and forth to the workshop, ants, giant rocks in holes.. it was truly something to be a part of. It was a day in sharp contrast to how things normally roll and there was the appropriate amounts of 4 letter words and laughter. image

Just never looks any smaller. Definitely going to be some nice boards to mill out.

Yeah.. haven’t made a dent in any of this yet. The property has such a different feel. Attempts at mentally processing the situation is a dizzying cycle of relief for all of us being unharmed, fear at the proximity of it all, sadness for the loss of such magnificent trees, a sense of ridiculousness for having such strong feelings about trees and property when loss of life is a reality for the community around us, and then back to relief for being unharmed. Rinse and repeat multiple times daily. Thank goodness for the jobs at hand to distract and focus a busy mind. image View quoted note →

Confirmations and failures: event still ongoing. -FRS radios are insufficient for communication within community. Not enough HAM operators to make use of locally. Boosted CBs seem the likely solution for my situation. -my supply of gas/propane was indeed not as ridiculous as I was teased about prior to this event. 😜 -more chainsaws. more chains. -dual fuel lanterns/stoves are invaluable. -battery banks were insufficient. -food stores/resources on hand were more than adequate. -security and vehicle access seems adequate. Luckily not fully tested, but vigilant. -water redundancy was crucial. Lost a well head at the onset. Open well and water storage proved necessary. -additional generators needed. Had one fail almost immediately.

I’ve loaned it out several times and finally have it back.. time for a second read. This one has floated around in my head for the last year. image
