So you want to build an S9 space heater for your last winter before the halving? Here is what I found while trying to optimize for cost and silence. I don’t think much of this is original, but generally like to share so we don’t all have to repeat the same experiments. Total build cost of about $225 that hashes about 9 TH/s at less than 40 dB and can be used at a slight hum in a bedroom. View quoted note →
Pro-tip to those of you running S9 space heaters. Ditch the 3D printed adapters and just attach the 140 mm fans with a 36 inch bungee cord. Take the faceplates off for maximum airflow. I’ve tried a bunch of configurations with these noctuas and this is the most quiet, cheapest, and easiest to remove for cleaning! Detailed write up coming soon hopefully. View quoted note →
Transitioned my s9 space heater from zip ties to plastic 140 mm fan adapters. Got louder 🤦‍♂️
Major natural gas pipeline broke in my region. Local run on space heaters in progress. S9 going brrrr until further notice
My local credit union just sent me a check for $3.42 since “NYDIG sold the bitcoin in my account” even though I never had a Bitcoin account with them. What the fuck are these people doing? 🤦‍♂️
Starting mining and waiting for rewards to come in reminds me of one of my favorite simple, but often confusing probability questions about bitcoin. How many minutes expected until the next block? 10 minutes. 12 minutes later same question. 10 minutes.
PSA: Home Assistant is awesome - bitcoin space heater and nest thermostat tied together. Going to have some fun with automations and this makes me want to pull the trigger on a used S19 Pro image

Those of you who are running S9 space heaters… how have you typically configured your set-up? Temp ranges, fan settings, auto tuning? Braiins auto tuning seems to work really well, but needs to run for a few hours for each power setting. Makes it difficult to test a bunch. #homemining
Just went clean shaven for the first time in 6 years and broke Face ID 🤷‍♂️
