One for the UK boomer:
Bitcoin is the “buying your council house” of our time. It’s the chance to provide for your children and grandchildren when everything else seems to be going against you.
Study bitcoin
This is the choice presented to us my modern society. HOW do we want to be controlled not IF. This is why tech like #bitcoin, #nostr, privacy tech and free speech are so important.
I would love to have a meetup with business owners, accountants, coders, node runners, self hosting providers etc. all in the same room to try and try to hash this out.
Getting your head around running your own node, lightning node and something like zapier is really hard.
Employers/entrepreneurs just want to focus on making their business better, employing people, spending time with their family and using their skills to do more.
I am not a coder, I am technically proficient and I am struggling.
Let’s work together to make this happen.
All of these questions are valid and need to have swift and easy answers that we can provide in the #bitcoin community in order for merchants to adopt.
We have a great opportunity at the moment and people are receptive.
I myself are digging my way through these question at the moment while trying g to set up a self sovereign payment solution.
To set up a @BtcpayServer and have all the connections required with hosting, exporting data to accounting etc. is a challenge. One that I will not back down from but still a challenge.
I have spoken to a few about #bitcoin and receiving payments in bitcoin and they are very receptive. In their eyes it provides a way to effectively save, reduce their payment costs/losses.
There is a barrier to entry at the moment though.
Here are a few of the questions:
How do I account for this with my accountant?
Is it legal?
How do I set it up?
Are there enough people who will use this?
It’s a lot of learning though, how am I going to find the time to do that?
This obviously has downstream effects for the family. I take inspiration from @sebbunney for this.
As a result, employers are not hiring as much or only hiring part time staff. They then take on more of the burden for the business themselves.
Not only do they limit employment in the area but they in-turn spend less time with their family and significant other. They beg steal and borrow child care from anyone who can help and work way into the night to keep their business going. They are more tired and stressed so the interaction they have with family becomes strained and uncomfortable.
The state of UK payments for shops at the moment is criminal. I deal with lots of independent coffee shops who buy our products and they are all battling with this.
Payment providers a charging variance of a flat fees of 10p + 2.5%, charging an epos rental charge and fee to keep you online.
If you layer this on to the post #covid pandemic’s push towards a cashless society and the fact that banks are now charging for paying in cash (if you can find one open) then small businesses are having a real bad time of it.
Spicy take 🌶️
All these #shitcoins are alpha and beta testnets for tech that will be used in the BIPs, Layer 2s and Layer 3s of the future #bitcoin economy.
The next Newcastle #Bitcoin meetup will be next Tomorrow at The Ware Rooms Bar.
As well as our usual Bitcoin banter, this month we will be having a guided conversation around Bitcoin Inheritance.
