They realized that they had higher, shared interests and responsibilities to each other and humanity than their Caesarical overlords. Not many of us are in a bombs and bullets fight for our lives, but still we can choose to set aside our differences and conflicts, whatever they are, and embrace each other as the brothers and sisters that we are. The soldiers that exchanged gifts that Christmas were transfered and chastised, and the powers that were upped the ante of the conflict, making it even more gruesome and hellish than it had been.
