Here's a relatively neutral breakdown of the United State's history of tariffs and how Trump's most recent round of tariffs might affect the US internally.
The dialogue of fiat vs bitcoin that is so prevalent here on nostr always related to the US dollar and often references failed currencies like the Turkish lira as examples of failure, here's another great example I've seldom heard about. Check out this article to learn about the multiple currencies Brazil burned through in no more than 20 years! View article →
Excellently written. I work in Dental IT and my industry is starting to see a shift away from on premises networks to the cloud. Dr.s are jumping o mn the train not thinking it through. They are leaving ownership and long term thinking for rentorship and short term thinking. They take $200 every month for owning nothing and being upsold everything as new features are always being dangled in front of them vs $50,000 once to set up a network and internal domain with their OWN server running programs that they OWN and have all features fully developed and accessible and guaranteed to last 6-8 years.... Even this could be pushed to last longer because the nature of servers os that you can change out component pieces but the software giants do the same with operating systems! Sorry long rant- but yes, you are right silicon valley is lost so far up their own ass and they are the leaders of industry society follows into the future.
I cant imagine what it must be like to work hard for a year and at the end of it the government just says, "all that money you made last year, it doesn't exist anymore" what the actual fuk I didn't know this, can't believe I haven't come across it.
Im reading the Epic of Gilgamesh atm and the forward to the penguin random house publication describes how the poems that form the epic were discovered. Its interesting to see how some of the oldest writing in human history could survive so many thousands of years. Human interaction is characterized by labor and love and we have an innate drive to cast that into the future. What better way than to write about it and here you are drawing parallels between the oldest known written language and the most breakthrough technologies in social media and writing! Great article!
Satisfaction is found in treasure shared between two souls. Many people live their entire lives never learning this as Moses and Solomon experienced. Profound man. Excellent piece.
China hits back at US tariffs with vow to take case to the WTO I was actually among the people that thought Trump was going to use the "threat" of tariffs as a bargaining chip to open favorable negotiations. This may still be the case but it is escalating quickly. No doubt, all prices in the USA will see crazy volatility in the coming months. If it forces manufacturing to return to the USA that will help local markets but this can also serve as the beginnings of global geoploiltical tensions that should be carefully navigated lest we tempt a global conflict...
If you’re buying an audience instead of building one, you won’t have a community—you'll have a ghost town. I love that! Really evocative.
Im torn on this. I have family from Mexico and in my opinion Cartels have been one of the biggest, if not the primary reason, that nation cannot grow as prosperous as it's capable of being. Throw on top of that how the Cartels have been actively affecting USA communities. It's an act of war. Sad thing is we shouldn't do anything without México's participation or it is tantamount to invasion.
This is the first article I've read on quantum computing vs bitcoin that doesn't just outright dismiss the threat landscape. I was talking to my older brother about this, until quantum computers become readily available why would major corporations developing these quantum computers 1) release to the public and not offer cloud quantum computing at a cost and 2) target bitcoin? If the intent is to steal bitcoin for its monetary value, it's a moot point because the moment the security of bitcoin is compromised at such a level it's value will plummet. At that point an attack would only serve to delegitimize bitcoin not to steal it.
It may just be a crazy coincidence, but two plane crashes in a week is a bit wild.
If I were starting university today, things would be different. My thirst for knowledge now makes me envy the younger version of myself—the one who had the time and opportunity to learn without truly realizing its value. I have a degree in international relations and political science, yet the depth of understanding I should have gained lingers like a ghost in my consciousness. I studied philosophy, but I only memorized what would be on the test, purging it soon after. I read ancient Greek texts but never truly learned how to think critically or challenge my own perceptions of the world. I studied the Enlightenment, took exams on the causes of the English Civil War, yet now I can only vaguely piece together the ideals that emerged from those events. I envy the younger me—the one who spent hours reading, listening to professors debate ideas I now find myself researching and relearning. If only I had appreciated then what I crave now. image
