this week's fediverse reports has some more thoughts on Threads' user statistics, and about Holos, an upcoming project that allows you to run an ActivityPub server on your phone

I care about an ethical internet. I write about Bluesky and the ATmosphere at connectedplaces.online ๐ณ๐ฑ, mostly post in English ger.mx/A7wQM6oeukC5_1...

I was interviewed about how media can use new social platforms
Happy that they explicitly mention why I do this work: sure, big tech bad, but the main point is that social media are collective sense making tools, and thats what makes them so extraordinarily valuable

New: ATmosphere Report #145, with collections of links to interesting atproto articles for November
This time, the links are on-protocol, as a cosmik.network@bsky.brid.gy collection, with a page that lets you follow the conversations on leaflet.pub@bsky.brid.gy and bsky.app@bsky.brid.gy

coming to think of it more: Twitter having a 21% of 'ever used it' vs 8% for Threads is consistent both platforms currently having the same DAU, if you account for platform age difference (18 vs 2.5) and a ~6% annual churn rate

this week's fediverse news is about how Newsmast is building apps for local news publishers that combines their articles with social media feeds, combining news with the fediverse into a single app

fascinating that Threads claims over 400M monthly active users while only ~21M of US adults claim to have *ever* used Threads
So where are the other 380M users located? Taiwan apparently has an active Threads community, but where else? https://pds.laurenshof.online/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:mdjhvva6vlrswsj26cftjttd&cid=bafkreic3foryb6zrpxcodc7zbs7kfmqutc6l6nbqmxci5db6kuo3kjrdse
