A round of fixes for where the app was wasting power: – map markers are built only when they can be on screen — before, every one in range was rebuilt on every camera frame, off-screen ones included, well over a thousand a frame in a city – the map no longer re-renders when it hasn't visibly moved, and stops animating entirely while the app is in the background, so navigating with the screen off and just the voice is finally cheap – the notification, compass and map-data downloads no longer run when nothing can use them • Navigation copes better with long routes and routes that double back. Roadstr v0.5.9 is out — a security hardening release. 🔒 An independent audit turned up a few real issues, now fixed: • Favorites sync was auto-publishing on every edit for anyone signed in with Nostr, with no separate opt-in despite the app claiming it was optional. Now off by default — a real "Sync automatically" toggle in Settings. • Logging in used to publish a profile-visibility event even if you never touched the setting, tying your key to "uses Roadstr" for no reason. Only publishes now if you actually chose public visibility. • A relay outage could get hammered every ~1.25s forever instead of backing off — fixed the reconnect logic. • Capped a few unbounded growth paths in the Nostr event stream that a flood of throwaway identities could have abused. • Store listing no longer claims things that weren't true (GPS handling, offline routing, license). Roadstr v0.5.8 is out. 🛣️ New: "Avoid unpaved roads" — a routing preference that steers you away from OSM-tagged tracks and dirt roads whenever a paved way exists. Comes straight from a field report of a near-crash on a routed dirt track — applied automatically to every route once you turn it on, and always honest that it's a best-effort steer, never a guarantee. Also in this release: • Road reports made with no signal now queue and publish automatically the moment you're back in coverage — no more losing a report because the spot that needed it had no bars. • Settings can be opened mid-navigation now, without stopping the trip. • Off-route recalculation no longer boxes you into a U-turn after a deliberate detour. • "Recalculate" after a traffic-jam alert actually avoids the jam now. • Fixed Bluetooth music/podcasts staying paused after voice guidance. • Fixed GPS silently giving up after a location-provider hiccup.
