Stopped by Guitar Center today just to mess around for a bit and ended up having a pretty sweet time. Got my hands on a Gibson SG 1961 reissue and a genuine '61 ES-335 (selling for $10k) - both sounded beautiful. Plugged into a Twin Reverb and was just noodling with some clean tones. Had it pretty dialed in I would say. As you can guess, I'm a Gibson guy. A few people around the store actually came up to compliment the tone or just gave a shout from across the room - “great tone,” “keep it going” - which was cool to hear. Most people there were absolutely blasting their amps. I swear, I'm always the only one playing clean and playing tastefully. Everyone else is going full volume punishment mode. Whats funny is it's usually those that come up and complement me, which they did today. Midway through, I hear someone call out, “Is that Colin?” - turned out it was my old friend Tank. We used to play together in his band, Ivadell. Then he tells me someone else I might know works there too. Turns out it’s my friend Panda from Florida, who I haven’t seen in ages. He used to play in Basebourne, another killer band. I wasn’t expecting anything today - just wanted to play - and ended up reuniting with old friends, jamming on some dream guitars, and making some sweet sounds. Wholesome day.

I went to get an oil change and tire rotation yesterday, so I had some time to kill. Took my Leica M262 along and went for a stroll down the road. It’s an industrial area, and the building you see in these photos manufactures plastic beads - apparently used to make trash bags, or so the guy I met out there once told me. Some days you hit something good, and other days feel kinda meh. This outing felt more on the “meh” side, but I still find the tones and mood in these shots pleasing in their own way. Photography has always been an ongoing practice for me - a kind of meditation. A proof-of-work ethic, just showing up even when nothing immediately jumps out at you. What I’ve noticed is, if I just start shooting, even if it feels like “nothing,” the rhythm eventually kicks in. Like I’m inviting the absurdity or mystery of the world to step forward. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. That’s part of it. You either make do with what’s present or shift your perspective. That’s what I love about photography - the aimless wandering, the permission to just look without expectation. Anyway, here’s what came out of that 30-minute walk. A few different angles and moods. Let me know which one stands out to you. The last one with the car is an added bonus. That was from the vintage car shop next door, heh. #photography #leica #noicemag View quoted note →

Today I saw something pretty wild. After a long bike ride, I ended up at our local pond and park. I laid down on a bench, looking up through the canopy as the late sun started casting its golden light. There was a nice breeze, and everything felt really nice. As I was staring up at the foliage, something that looked like a dead leaf caught my eye - turned out to be a Polyphemus Moth. Its wings looked tattered or dry. You don’t see them often, though I do have one in my personal collection. It’s been a while since I last spotted one, so I was very surprised. I stood up on the bench and gently pulled the branch toward me to get a better look. As it started crawling onto my fingers, it suddenly flew off - and then, weirdly, landed right into the pond. I felt bad. I figured that was probably it… soaking wet, wings ruined, going to drown. But after a few seconds of flopping around in the water, it somehow pulled itself out and flew off. I was amazed. And then - boom - it cannonballed right back into the pond again! Another few seconds of splashy chaos, and unbelievably, it flew off once more to a nearby tree to rest. I couldn’t believe what I just saw. Not once, but twice, this moth threw itself into the water and flew out like nothing happened. Maybe it was trying to moisten its wings - they did look beat up, possibly from the heat. I didn’t know moths could do that. Maybe it’s something they’re known for, but I’ve never seen it before. Either way, it was a very cool thing to see. image

Yesterday I went down to the river for a swim and ran into a friend I’d just met a few days earlier. He’s a cool guy - into psychedelics like I am (or used to be, in his case). He told me some wild trip reports, some bad but all pretty profound for him. I love conversations like that. I told him a bit about how I used to grow mushrooms and even extracted DMT a few times myself - but that’s a story for another day… Somehow we got onto #Bitcoin. He told me he first heard about it when BTC was around $50, but he didn’t touch it because he thought it was just for scams and buying drugs - which, funny enough, was exactly what his friend was doing on Silk Road. What an insane opportunity that could’ve been. He still hasn’t stacked any sats, but after our long, honest talk about money and Bitcoin, I think I lit a little spark. I shared a few good resources with him, like Jack Mallers’ Atlantis lecture and gave him my Strike referral code for some extra perks. Whether he goes for it or not, I love conversations like that - doing the good work, spreading the signal. Feels good to help someone see things from another angle.

If I understand correctly, using #Bitcoin as collateral for a loan makes the most sense toward the end of a bear market - that way, the Bitcoin has more room to appreciate from the low point. Is that right? #asknostr
