Never appreciated at the time the privilege of growing up next to this 13th century proof of work. Humans can achieve such greatness. image

Being with a baby is like meditating. Pulls you in to the here and now. They have few needs. But when they get one, boy its immediate. One second they are all smiles and gurgles. Next second screaming blue murder. The more present you are, the better it is.

No government can solve the energy trilemma. Nor do they want to. Free markets can. And will.

1961 East Germany built the Berlin Wall to keep its citizens from escaping. Today united Germany is attempting the same by imposing the Exit Tax. Both strategies will end the same way. Carrots work long-term. Sticks don't.

There's so much business email jargon bullshit. 'circling back' being one of the most cringeworthy. Why can't we just talk to each other normal like?

My daughter made an interesting observation as we were trying to find a non dog-poo infested spot for our picnic blanket in a UK park for the baby to have a kick. 'Its interesting Mum. In Dubai, they fence off a little area in the corner of the parks for dogs to run off leash, and the rest of the space is for human enjoyment. In England they fence off a little corner of the park for children to play, and the rest of the space is for dog enjoyment.'. Says it all as to where we place the well-being/importance/freedom of children in our society.

The internet, bitcoin and nostr will together precipitate the demise of today's political systems and nation-states. What comes next? I like to imagine a more decentralised form of society, where leaders have to constantly earn their right to lead. Where wealth flows naturally to those helping to create a sustainable, healthy, and culturally rich society. Where society members take responsibility for themselves first, then their families and then their neighbours. With compassion. And common sense. Where what makes us uniquely human is celebrated and revered. Where who you are matters. Not what you have. That's a future I can get excited about.
