This will be one of the hardest decisions of my life. I have a doctor’s appointment shortly, to decide on my grandmother’s behalf what she still wants and what she doesn’t. Unfortunately, she can no longer decide this for herself. Since I come from a nursing background, I know what’s possible and what isn’t, and that at 93 one should be allowed to go with dignity, without anyone artificially keeping her alive — even though that’s of course extremely difficult for us as family. I spent the last few days out in nature to sit with this question, and I’ve decided that no life-prolonging measures will be taken.
