COPV vs. Wright - COPA Closing Statements: Evidence submitted by Wright were scribbled notes on a pad to support his planning of the bitcoin whitepaper in 2007. It was found that the pad was produced after this date. Wright countered the evidence, arguing the pad’s production date was incorrect based on his family’s work history with Staples.

On Wednesday, 10 January 2024 the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved a bitcoin spot ETF, allowing institutional players like BlackRock to offer products listed on stock exchanges directly backed one-to-one by bitcoin. In the very same week, the U.K. imposed stringent regulations that significantly restricted the purchase of bitcoin.
