Very much agree that it would be great if bitcoin core incorporated an electrum server, and make degrading multisig/timelocks possible without needing to maintain an off chain descriptor file. No idea on the tradeoffs or feasibility.

I think you could effectively create an unspendable time lock followed by periods to re-timelock or claim funds by creating a setup like: 0 - 6 months Burnt key that is destroyed after wallet creation. 6 - 8 months Secure geo distributed multi sig, 3 of 3, 3 of 5 - whatever you like. 8 - 12 months Less secure, 1 very well known key for personal recovery. 12 months+ Inheritance key/keys To timelock again just refresh the coins after 6 months. Not suggested but an interesting option.
