First day of gun season yesterday. After 2 months of being skunked with the bow, I get to ‘see it, kill it’ setup. Went to the stand for a two hour sit during which the rain and wind brought me back to my BUDS days, so I just grinned into it,
Once the rain let up, I went ‘stalk-about’ following the wind pattern. Then I saw a 3 pointer meandering my way, close. I froze, raising my long-range, accurate .308 to my shoulder, aimed and clicked off the safety. Little pointy heard it and raised his head, but went back to grazing. I sighted in the front left shoulder, he moved, I pulled. From 10 yards….
He bounded away scared, and I watched. Then went looking for the blood trail, but nothing. And I mean nothing. After tracking in concentric circles I saw a few of his tracks in the leaves, but NO blood. WTF?
After 40 mins I went back to the scene, got way down on my hands and finally saw 6 white hairs on the leaves. I found a few more hairs along a 30m trail that confirmed a hit but nothing else. I follow the line of direction and finally saw a tuft of white 100 yards down the hill, wedged into a big pile of trees. I hadn’t missed after all.
I just barely missed the front shoulder and with a front quartering shot, had hit one lung but destroyed the guts. Lesson here, front quarter shots are a bit particular. I spent the rest of the morning hauling his weight up the hill and through downed trees before I could get him on a cart. Workout done for the day.
Anyway, thought you might enjoy the story. Happy hunting!

#homesteadchallenge. Cicadias! Everywhere. The 14 year cycle has brought millions of cicadas out in Tennessee. Here I am, working to live off the land I live on by growing or foraging as much of my food as possible.
Did you know these little critters come is swarms because every thing loves to eat them. So… I went foraging. Easily caught 4 in 5 mins, froze them (to humanely kill them) and cooked them up in an air fryer. They tasted outstanding and are full of protein and good fats. They pair well with the strawberries that are coming in too. Maybe I’ll start selling them for sats…

#homesteadchallenge Week 6: an eye-opening discovery that Borscht is the ultimate hack for winter homesteading survival cooking. Beets, cabbage, carrots all grow in the cold, and combined with venison from the hunting season, it’s one of the most delicious and filling soups I’ve ever had. I did add some micro greens to the finished bowl to give it more nutrition and crunch. Living off only what I can grow and forage is the best way to learn!

GM Nostr!
#homesteadchallenge Week 4: Deer Jerky keeps the muscles moving as hauling maple sap and cooking it with wood draws energy! The maple syrup at the end gives a boost though, since harvested greens and tomato soup only goes so far. These are the lean months of homestead living but provides focus! Here’s some pics of the sugaring process:

Week #2 of my Homestead Challenge! Breakfast was pine needle tea, and for lunch, I made tomato soup from frozen tomatoes with homegrown sprouts. Dinner was more tomato soup with sprouts, deer jerky, and a peach smoothie. Not everything is easy—I might run out of deer by April, so I’m hoping the chickens will come online before then. Onward! 🌿 #HomesteadChallenge #SelfSufficiency”

Trying to touch grass… #snow

Week 1: #homesteadchallenge
Pine needle, deer jerky for b-fast. Tomato soup with squash for lunch, deer jerky and peach smoothie for dinner. Approx 1000 calories. Headache from no coffee. Started micro greens and lots of beets under grow lights….

“Living off the land one step at a time. 🌱 My #HomesteadChallenge: Eating only what I grow, forage, hunt, or raise on my farm—starting with 1 day a week, increasing each month. 🐓🌾🦌 #Sustainability #SelfSufficiency”

We don’t need federal government assistance here in Appalchistan. We have neighbors, churches, cities, states and a loving kindness that comes from our Creator. We innovate and improvise when we ned to. I saw two neighbors today getting water from streams and filtering it. Localism beats federalism, so don’t ask for it.
Foraging season begins… #homestead #foraging

1. Israeli Air Force responsible for overnight strikes on Iran-linked operatives in eastern Syria: The strikes in the Deir Ezzor and al-Bukamal area targeted assets belonging to Iran’s Unit 4000, the Special Operations Division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Intelligence Organization, and the special operations unit of the IRGC’s Quds Force in Syria, known as Unit 18840, according to Israeli defense sources. The US has denied involvement in the strikes. (TimesOfIsrael)
2. Gaza aid drop in sea leads to drownings: Gaza’s Hamas-run government media office says 18 Palestinians have been killed while trying to collect desperately-needed aid that was airdropped over northern Gaza. Twelve people drowned when they went into the sea to retrieve food packages, the other six were trampled to death in “stampedes” when other aid packages landed on the ground, a statement said. The US says two C-17 aircraft dropped 46,000 "meals ready to eat" (MREs) over the north on Monday, while the UK says one of its A400M aircraft dropped 10 tonnes of water, rice, cooking oil, flour, tinned goods and baby formula. Japan approves plan to sell fighter jets to other nations in latest break from pacifist principles: Japan’s Cabinet on Tuesday approved a plan to sell future next-generation fighter jets that it’s developing with Britain and Italy to other countries. Japan has long restricted arms exports under the country’s pacifist constitution, but has rapidly taken steps to deregulate amid rising regional and global tensions, especially from nearby China. A harbor pilot and assistant reported power issues and a loss of propulsion prior to the collision, according to a Coast Guard briefing report. The ship did not have enough time to drop anchors to stop drifting, according to the officer, and crew members issued a mayday call before the crash happened. One body of the six presumed dead workers on the bridge has been recovered. (Fox)

Analyst Comments (AC): There is a lot of speculation concerning the container ship "Dali" running into the Francis Scott Key Bridge yesterday. The MSM has already said that speculation is dangerous (CNN), while Fox is hinting that 'dirty fuel' is the culprit. There are innumerable possible explanations for the incident, and it is prudent to not discard any of them. This could be an intentional act, an act of incompetence, or simply an accident beyond control. What is known are the facts of the crash and the consequences, which are significant. The infrastructure in the US has been host to an increase of safety incidents from planes falling apart, train derailments, and now a critical ship/bridge disaster. It is evident that if the US is being targeted via its infrastructure, it is not obviously attributable, meaning skillful actors. If the US is not being targeted, then incompetence in US government management has increased. Neither conclusion should be withheld from the populace that is subject to the dangers involved.

1. Israel cancels Washington visit after US allows UN Gaza ceasefire resolution to pass: Tensions between the United States and Israel were exposed on Monday when Washington stood aside and allowed the UN Security Council to pass a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The US decision to abstain on the vote prompted Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cancel a scheduled trip to the US by two of his top advisers, two Israeli officials said. (CNN)
2. Russia extends detention of US WSJ reporter Gershkovich: The Moscow City Court ordered on Tuesday that the 32-year-old Wall Street Journal reporter remain behind bars until June 30 as he awaits trial on espionage charges. The United States embassy slammed the decision, which ensures that the journalist will spend a year at least in prison, as evidence that Russia is “using American citizens as pawns to achieve political ends”. (AlJazerra) (AC-The timing of this announcement alludes to a probable response to perceived US involvement or at least covering of the Moscow terrorist attack over the weekend. Russia has shown a skillful practice of using international prisoners for bargaining chips in international relations.)
3. Fmr. 1. Fear(0)/Greed(100) Index: 81/100 (Up 6 pts)
Analyst Comments (AC): The SWIFT announcement is important to nation-state governments' continued economic power in fiat currencies. With SWIFT building and launching a CBDC payments platform, it signals a new order in a world where CBDCs are key for cross-border payments, commercial payments, and global trade. This is where CBDCs will first become established before being pushed onto populations as a whole. The technical challenges at this level are easier than at population scales. What is interesting is how "pariah" states like BRICS will respond since they are often excluded from SWIFT. Will they adopt stronger systems like Bitcoin or build their own CBDC system in competition with SWIFT?

Analyst Comments (AC): The big geopolitical news is the terrorist attack in Moscow. As media streamed video and pictures of the brazen attack, Russians and the world were shocked. The quick announcement by ISIS-K (?) for responsibility is suspect by Russians, while Russia's blame of Ukraine is suspect by the West. In the world of 5th Gen Warfare, it is difficult to ascertain facts and motives of this attack. What is known is that Putin now has a new dilemma on his hands. Does he wrap up operations in Ukraine to focus on ISIS? Ignore the attack for now? Or does he try to target both at the same time? Deeper questions remain, such as what is/was the role of the US in this situation? This certainly has hallmarks of intelligence-type operations, but the ambiguity of this world masks the potential instigators, which could range from ISIS, Ukraine, USA, Israel, to even Russia itself. The incident will certainly drive new geopolitical directions for Russian efforts and its relationships.

Analyst Comments (AC): Central banks worldwide are mostly holding interest rates steady, but signs of easing rates are beginning to appear. With the Swiss bank's drop in rates, among others, bankers are looking to stimulate economies again. The Keynesian game continues as it has for over 100 years, namely, controlling economies as desired by governments and debasing the savings of workers. From an economic standpoint, it seems that humanity is on the brink of paradigm shift as the new "digital property" of Bitcoin begins to offer savers a new option other than hard assets. The shift will take time and pain to accelerate it, and economic education will be necessary to help savers understand how to preserve the efforts of their work.

The dumping of GBTC and selling of underlying bitcoin have kept the price relatively stable while institutions and whales have been buying bitcoin or the ETFs. The reason for the policy may be as benign as to capture high fees for a little longer or as nefarious as cooperation with other institutions to allow key clients to buy before the halving and supply drive the bitcoin price much higher.)

Analyst Comments (AC): From a totalitarian curtain dropping in Hong Kong, to increasingly brazen crime in the US, some days it seems the news portrays a dystopian future creeping up on us. There are certainly pockets of optimism and hope, and tribes are uniting globally to fight for freedom and common sense. This year the election cycle will unveil much of this 5GW war and its effect on all of us. In the meantime, changes can be made locally, networks built globally, and defense of rational freedoms fought wherever we can.

1. Fear(0)/Greed(100) Index: 74/100 (Down 5 pts)
Analyst Comments (AC): Hacks on the platform X (Twitter) have increased significantly. The hacks have been using false accounts or have been the official accounts taken over by mobile phone sim swaps. Many high-profile people (like the Indian PM reported today) have been targeted but the analyst has also noticed almost every Bitcoin influencer has also been targeted, most often with false accounts. Work to protect your social media accounts and use more secure systems (like NOSTR) for legitimate interactions with friends and family. Consider instituting sim swap defenses such as using authenticator apps and stricter policies with your cell carriers.
