Despite the separate Chinese NOTAMs being issued for today’s SLBM test that landed in the Pacific’s nuclear-weapon-free zone, Taiwanese Secretary General of the National Security Council Joseph Wu said that the trajectory of the test launched passed just north of the Philippines’ Luzon Island, calling the move a “provocation.” In addition to the statement, Japan’s Kyodo News has said that the missile did not fly over Japan’s exclusive economic zone or its airspace, which lends some credence to Secretary Wu’s claims that the launch originated in the South China Sea, passing Luzon, and not the Bohai Sea. This post will be updated should additional information come out. image

According to the Kyiv Independent, Ukraine has effectively exhausted its stockpile of Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, significantly reducing its ability to defend against Russian ballistic missile attacks. During Russia’s latest large-scale strike, Ukrainian officials said 23 ballistic missiles and six 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles reached their targets. At the same time, Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted 37 cruise missiles and 326 drones. Officials attributed the disparity to a shortage of Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, one of the few systems capable of reliably intercepting ballistic missiles. The shortage comes amid surging global demand for Patriot interceptors, with U.S. inventories under pressure due to commitments in the Middle East and other regions. Ukrainian officials say the situation has allowed Russia to place greater emphasis on ballistic missile strikes against cities and critical infrastructure. image

President Trump on Iran: “We’re going to be getting what I call the ‘dust’—the enriched nuclear material. I call it nuclear dust. I authorized the operation for one reason above all: Iran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. I’m not seeking regime change, although you could say this is regime change. The first regime is gone. The second regime is gone. I think the third regime is more reasonable—but we’ll see.”

Trump: “If Belgium wins the game, its people can be very proud. But if they had won with that player still on the field, it would have been a different story. You can’t do that, and I’m very glad. All I did was ask for a review. I didn’t say, ‘You have to do this.’ Gianni Infantino is a smart, tough man. He’s handled this well, and his reputation has gone through the roof.”
