Speaking this morning on CNBC, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, addressed questions about whether Russia may be sharing intelligence with Iran during the ongoing conflict. When asked if Moscow could be providing information on the location of United States military assets, Witkoff said he was not in a position to confirm any intelligence details but noted that Russian officials denied the allegation in recent discussions. Witkoff said Donald Trump spoke with Russian representatives yesterday, during which they stated they were not sharing intelligence with Iran. He added that he and Jared Kushner also held a separate call with Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov, who reiterated the same position. Witkoff concluded that the question ultimately falls to intelligence officials, saying, “We can take them at their word… but that’s really a question for the intel people. Let’s hope they’re not sharing.”

Iranian international affairs expert Mostafa Khoshchem warned that the United Arab Emirates is extremely vulnerable to Iranian retaliation, saying the country is roughly the size of only a few small Iranian cities and could be devastated by a major strike from Iran. He also argued that the Strait of Hormuz should be shut down for three months in order to pressure Iran’s adversaries to accept Tehran’s conditions. “The UAE is the size of two small Iranian cities. Iran could strike it so hard that nothing would remain. The Strait of Hormuz should be closed for three months until our enemies agree to our terms.”

Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary for the White House, said the length of U.S. military operations against Iran will depend on when the president determines the mission is complete. “The operations will end when the Commander in Chief determines that the military objectives have been met and fully realized—and that Iran is in a position of complete and unconditional surrender, whether they say it or not.” Leavitt clarified that “unconditional surrender” does not necessarily require a formal declaration by Iran; rather, it means the president decides that Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States and the goals of the military campaign have been achieved.
