Good morning.
Making some coffee and getting ready for the day.
I'll be doing a System Migration service for a business client. That's taking their old computer, making a cloned image of it (with some preparation before the clone, then applying that image to a replacement computer, doing software upgrades of the system once it is on the newer computer.

I was not planning on going down a nostr rabbit trail this evening.
Now I think I want to look up how to do NIP-05 verification with my own website. I remember that being a thing.
I am taking a look at BCHnostr.com (posting from that web interface now).
Since it is just nostr and no data is really stored on the BCHnostr.com website (FAQ says it is a static site and just connects through to nostr relays), how would people know that my posts are coming from BCHnostr.com ? Is the client also listed as part of the nostr post data ?

Just getting a coffee. Beautiful day where I am.
Lots of work and driving to do later.

Good morning. Getting another cup of coffee now.
Hey, you may have heard I am giving away a computer every week. I'm sharing my explorations with Linux and NetBSD along the way.
I have announced the winner of the third weekly giveaway:

Unexpected XFCE - ThinkCentre Tiny winner
The XFCE desktop environment is a classic favorite
Right now there’s a lot of push back against AI and BigTech. I think that’s a good thing… but you actually have to do something about it.
If you are angry about the decisions and actions of companies like Microsoft and Apple, are you still buying, using and promoting their products?
I’ve been using Linux for over 20 years. It is a viable and useful alternative operating system.
But there’s trouble brewing in Linux-land, too. There’s much more freedom when using Linux, but BigTech is trying to use their influence to steer the direction of Open Source.
I write about Linux distros that push back against that trend.
Tomorrow, I’ll be doing a drawing for the winner of my weekly computer giveaway.
The model for this week is a ThinkCentre M710q Tiny with Intel i3-7100T processor, 8GB memory and 120GB storage.
Linux will be pre-installed. One of the reasons I am doing this is to bring attention to Linux distros like:
* Artix
* Devuan
* Void
* Slackware
* NetBSD (which is not Linux)

Here's a little chatty video where I show off my current experimentation with the XFCE desktop environment.
Video length is about four and a half minutes.
I removed some of the panels and panel items. Replace the menu with Rofi launcher. Added tiling features to XFCE with the 'coretile' program.
This is running on a ThinkCentre Tiny computer.
On Wednesday of this week I'll be drawing the winner of my weekly computer giveaway from the subscribers of my email newsletter.

I want to connect with more people who are into:
1. Linux and/or BSD computer operating systems
2. Freedom from BigTech
3. Digital Independence and Self-Hosting
This last week I posted a poll (on the Fediverse) asking about two different Linux desktop environments.
I think I expected XFCE to be preferred, but I was surprised by how much!
It certainly has me looking at XFCE more closely now. After this poll, I did an install of Void Linux with XFCE on a ThinkCentre Tiny and experimented with customization.

> Despite my reservations about Nostr as a whole, I remain open-minded to the project. Like many decentralized systems it’s constantly evolving and there genuinely is a great deal of promise. One simple thing about it is that (for better or worse) most Nostr clients add image links as attachments to posts. It’s a small thing but it does make a big difference that clients themselves can choose to seamlessly support a image hosting solution for the users.

Good morning.
It's been a while since I have checked in on nostr. Looks like a lot of you are still posting and laying down the memes.
Sent out the announcement of the first winner of a weekly computer giveaway. I'll be giving away a computer every week from here on out until I run out of them (pretty much indefinitely).

"The return of cassettes, LP's and CD's might just be a passing fad, but it might be an early sign of societal rejection of our present digital culture. A desire for a less invasive, "every keystroke logged" impersonal life."
