Crypto-currencies have the potential to really change what has been called "the creator economy". Louis Rossman and others have said that having viewers donate a quarter ($0.25) per year would give them more revenue than they get from the advertisement revenue share from Youtube. However, for small transactions, the processing fee with a debit or credit card is usually 25 cents plus a percentage. Patreon and others sort of solve this, by having you pay once and can split up between creators you support. But what if you just want to give a video creator a 25 cent tip for a video you really enjoyed, but don't want to commit to donating again or to anyone else? This is where crypto-currencies can shine. Monero and Bitcoin Cash have tiny transaction fees, usually less than one penny. So it can make sense to send someone even 10 cents at a time. #monero #bch #xmr #creatoreconomy

Got some ThinkPad laptops in that I am refurbishing. ThinkPad T490 and T14 (2nd Generation) models. I like the 14 inch size. I plan on working with the T495 and T14 with AMD Ryzen processors more soon. For now, most of the ThinkPad laptops I sell come with Intel processors. #thinkpad #ryzen

I am testing out LocalSend to quickly send files between devices on my local network. Installed with the .deb package on my Devuan workstation. Will try to install LocalSend on an older phone that has /e/ OS (privacy version of Android). Then will test sending photos I take on the phone to my workstation. #Linux #LocalSend #Devuan #debian image

I'm updating the software on an older Acer netbook at the request of a customer. He was getting the message about the installed version of Firefox no longer being supported. Laptop is running Zorin OS (Linux). I updated the system using "apt update" and "apt-distupgrade" as you normally would on a Debian based system. Started Firefox again. Still on an older version, but the version screen mentions Flatpak. So looks like Firefox is installed as a Flatpak on Zorin OS. So running "flatpak update" now. I'm not a flatpak kind of guy, so had to refresh my memory by looking at the man page for flatpak. #Linux

I'm just disappointed time after time with Mozilla. I've been using Firefox since it was called "Firebird". Each broken promise and failed project is yet another let down. I'm probably about ready to give up on them entirely. #mozilla #firefox

I'm working on refurbishing a ThinkPad P51 laptop with Xeon processor. Impressive machine. Old enough to be affordable, still very powerful for the work that my customer is wanting to do with it. I plan on replacing the screen, as it has a noticeable light spot. Will be upgrading with a new Crucial 1TB nvme SSD and upgrading the memory (RAM) to 32GB. #ThinkPad

gparted and clonezilla are useful tools. Using them again today to clone a 512GB nvme SSD to a slightly smaller new 500GB nvme SSD. Gparted to shrink and move partions, Clonezilla to clone (Expert Mode, option -icds, to skip check the size of the drive it is cloning to). If a Window NTFS partition, run chkdsk in Windows after resizing the partition with gparted and before cloning with CloneZilla. Otherwise, the clone will fail (happened the first time I tried it, worked fine after running chkdsk from Windows on that partition). #linux

The clonezilla liveboot also has the "shred" utility, so you can boot clonezilla, enter a command prompt and run the same thing. View quoted note →

I just got another 1U Dell PowerEdge server, used of course. Looking forward to experimenting with what it can do.
