>Some create brands. Some make ice cream. Some do both. Last week I was in Ireland. In a small town on the west coast, I walked past a shop that immediately stood out. An ice cream place. But different. Designed with intention. I went in. The menu said the ice cream was world famous. Handmade. Local ingredients. Vegan options too. But what really got me? The whole place told a story. The walls, the packaging, the uniforms, even the waffle cone. Everything fit. The story of the local mountain – the same one I had just run up the day before. That hit me. It was the first mountain I ever climbed in Ireland, back in 2017. Back then I hiked. Now I run. Full circle. I asked the guy behind the counter, “Who designed all this?” He smiled and said, “I did. I’m a graphic designer.” For the first time, I loved hearing that answer. Because you could feel it. I asked, “Are you still working as a designer?” He didn’t hesitate: “No. I couldn’t anymore. The back and forth with clients drained me. I needed to create again, on my own terms.” That stuck with me. Because I get it. When you pour your heart into design, it’s hard to watch it get watered down by endless feedback loops. When you’re so close to your work, and it slips away bit by bit. But he found a way. He turned his creativity into something of his own. Something that fulfills him. Something people feel. That’s what design can do. Design is not just a service. It’s a statement. An attitude. Sometimes, a quiet rebellion. Some people build sneaker brands. Others sell handmade ice cream. At the core, it’s the same fire. The desire to shape something that matters. To make things a little better, and a little more beautiful. Don’t let the love for what you do fade. There will always be noise. Clients. Teachers. Family. Your own doubts. But you choose which voice you follow. Even if you stay in client work, don’t forget why they came to you. Not to tell you what they want. But to discover what they really need. So they can build something that resonates. That’s understood. Trusted. Loved. A brand that tells a story, even without words. ❓How do you express your creativity?
