Oh boy! Here I go weldin again.. While I won’t receive any prices for my welding today, at least I’m getting better at it. And welding upside down was never easy. This is the exhaust port getting patched shut. Whether I make a new one is up for debate. #welding #grownostr #sailboat #refit

This engine might be too far gone. The reason I need to take out the engine in picture. There has been a saltwater leak that has sprayed the right side of the engine. For all I know it may have been going on for years before the boat got in my hands. Disappointing, but it is what it is. #refit #grownostr #madness

Good day! Task for the evening is to finalise preparations to hoist out the engine for overhaul/replacement. It’s an old Volvo penta that so far has seemed reliable, but heavy and with gearing/prop out of ratio. Also it seem to produce way to much power for this boat Another thing that I need to do is to treat rust under the engine. #refit #sailboat #grownostr

Repurpose and reuse. This is the rigging of an unknown dinghy that has been laying around. It has been separated from its former companion, so I hope it will serve well as a spinnaker pole. Just need to figure out if the diameter is suited to handle the loads of a much bigger sail. #sailing #repurpose #grownostr

Good day #nostr Starting to prep the topsides for coating today. Had some small to severe cracks in the fairing. They might be caused by thermal expansion or shrinking polyester fairing. So I will fair with epoxy and choose a lighter colour for this job #grownostr #boatbuilding

Tool of the day: impact driver. Some screws seem impossible and the screw driver will just slip before you can put enough torque on to turn the screw. The impact driver might help as it turns when giving it a whack with the sledge hammer. This is the screw holding the cutlass bearing that will need to be replaced. #tools #restoration #boatbuilding #grownostr

Last valve and trough hull to be replaced by new composite ones that does not corrode. This is one of the two biggest onboard Tilde, they are for draining the cockpit and deck. One less worry. #boatbuilding #refit #steelboat #grownostr

Sometimes the best you can do is to call in reinforcements. My friend helped me weld in the new metal where I found rust going through the hull. Surprises like that is always stressful, I’m just thankful that I discovered the hole before going on the water, and that the sail association have room for Tilde over the summer. #boatbuilding #grownostr
