Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.
One the most satisfying projects on our land has been mending a deep gully that developed over just a few years. Feb 2024- gully is about 50 feet long and was between 1 and 4 feet deep, getting noticeably worse with each major storm image April 2025 image We filled the gully with sticks, leaves, and old bales of straw, then planted tiny willows that we had rooted from cuttings. The rings and cardboard are to protect them from being washed away (rain water moves fast down the gully!). Some of the willows failed to take and we just kept replacing them with new cuttings to fill in gaps as needed. They're now well-branched shrubs, most over 8 feet tall and are great fodder for the animals. We still have more to go - almost half, that I hope to take care of this fall - but slowing down the water in the beginning of it has made a huge difference: no more deepening of the gully.
