The exchanges I've had on Nostr are unlike any I get to have in real life, and I really appreciate them. One recent one (with @ BlueDuckBTC) has helped me clarify that my beliefs about capitalism are analogous to my beliefs on free speech.
Free speech SUCKS. Humans are often nasty and bigoted. They can be manipulative, underhanded, tribal, and just plain dumb. When there are minimal consequences for their words - as in anonymous online speech - those tendencies are generally magnified, and uncontrolled speech often leads to real-life harms. There is nothing pretty or utopian about a society with free speech.
And, still, despite all that - free speech is far better in the long run than having speech controlled, especially since that control is wielded by the kinds of people who are drawn to positions of power.
I don't particularly like or idealize capitalism; it can be brutal and unfair, and it's possible that it inevitably devolves to the corporatism that we have now in much of the West. It just seems clear to me that the control that's necessary to counter capitalism is even more dangerous.

Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities.
I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

I'm listening to an excellent, thought-provoking podcast with Darryl Cooper. Link if anyone's interested -

Agastche. We have it surrounding one of our apple trees (with comfrey, oregano, chamomile and a few others). The whole area hums with pollinators.

We planted some bamboo outside our bathroom. Bamboo being bamboo, it has come up between the stones on the floor - so now we take showers surrounded by beautiful green stalks
