Proof of Decay Aquatic Paradis Water Park in Sitges in Spain has been closed for many years. The park operated for a time but eventually shut down after a series of issues, including safety concerns. One of the more notable incidents involved a tragic accident where a child was injured, which raised questions about the park’s safety measures and contributed to its decline in popularity. The park’s closure was also due to financial difficulties, and it has remained abandoned since then. There are no plans for reopening, and its reputation remains tied to the unfortunate accident and the broader concerns about safety and management that led to its downfall. The site is now a part of the past for Sitges, remembered by locals but no longer in operation. #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm

Proof of Block Brutalist architecture in France, prominent in the mid-20th century, is characterized by bold, geometric forms, often using raw, exposed concrete (béton brut). It emerged as a response to post-war urban development needs, especially in housing and public buildings. Despite its monumental and sometimes harsh appearance, Brutalism aimed to serve social purposes and create practical, affordable urban spaces. #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm

Proof of Genuity Many people know about the famous Sagrada Familia, but did you know that Gaudí developed some of its groundbreaking design ideas through his work on Colonia Güell? Located just outside Barcelona, Colonia Güell is an unfinished crypt where Gaudí experimented with innovative architectural techniques. Here, he used a small-scale version of his signature catenary arches and organic forms, which later defined the Sagrada Familia. #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm

Proof of Citadel The Castell de Lloret, also known as Castell d'en Plaja, is an iconic castle located in Lloret de Mar, a coastal town in the province of Girona, Spain. It is a neo-Gothic-style castle with round towers, battlements, and stone walls, emulating medieval castles of the region. The design is romantic, capturing the imagination of tourists who may initially believe it to be much older than it is. Though it looks like an ancient fortress, the Castell de Lloret is more of a modern mansion inspired by medieval design. #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm

It is possible that you will not notice the pyramid in the water at the first two photos. Actually this is Sant Roma De Sau church and it was located in a village with the same name. The church belonged to the village of Sant Romà de Sau, which was submerged along with the surrounding area when the reservoir was created to provide water for Barcelona and the surrounding regions. The village had a long history, dating back to medieval times, centered around the church and agricultural activities. When the decision was made to build the dam, the inhabitants of the village were relocated, and the village was intentionally flooded. During times of drought, the water level of the reservoir drops, revealing the church’s bell tower and sometimes even parts of the remaining structures of the village, serving as a reminder of the area's past. #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm

Zigzagging stairs Towering 83 meters above the Ter River, the Ponta de Sau Dam is a remarkable feat of engineering in Catalunya. Built in 1962, this concrete giant holds back millions of cubic meters of water, forming the vast reservoir behind it. One of its most intriguing features is the set of steep, zigzagging stairs running along its side, offering a close-up view of the dam’s immense scale and precision. These stairs, though challenging, provide a unique vantage point for those interested in exploring the structure up close. A marvel of both functionality and design, the Ponta de Sau Dam is essential to the region’s water management and hydroelectric power, and a fascinating landmark to visit. That’s La Mussara Once a thriving village nestled high in the mountains, La Mussara now stands as little more than a haunting memory—its crumbling ruins whispering of a time long gone. Deserted between the 1950s and 1960s, the town’s official demise has been attributed to phylloxera, a relentless insect plague that ravaged the vineyards, leaving the locals without their lifeblood. But there’s another story, far more chilling. Some say La Mussara was cursed—its fate sealed long before the vines withered. Whispers of doom spread like wildfire, gripping the villagers with fear. Perhaps it wasn’t the insects that drove them away... but the sinister knowledge that their home was doomed from the very start. Proof of Bridge Everyone knows the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but did you know that Gustave Eiffel also left his mark in Porto, Portugal? The Ponte de Dona Maria Pia, completed in 1877, was designed by Eiffel to span the Douro River, connecting Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. This iron railway bridge was an engineering marvel at the time, showcasing Eiffel’s innovative use of iron structures long before his famous Parisian tower. Though no longer in operation, its elegant arches and intricate ironwork continue to stand as a tribute to 19th-century engineering. For those visiting Porto, the bridge is a hidden gem, symbolizing both the city’s industrial past and Eiffel’s lasting legacy beyond France. Don’t miss the chance to glimpse this lesser-known masterpiece! #art #plebs #photography #photostr #plebchain #artstr #picoftheday #gm
