Everyone here wants censorship resistance and freedom from institutional control. Great. But what's the positive vision? Freedom to do what? Build what kind of world? Censorship resistance is infrastructure, not a destination. Without vision for what we're building on that foundation - what voluntary cooperation looks like, what replaces captured institutions - we're just optimizing for chaos, not civilization.

Bitcoin as identity is a trap. Ethereum as identity is a trap. Monero as identity is a trap. Any freedom tool becoming tribal identity recreates the power dynamics it was supposed to eliminate.

Step 1: Invent something that breaks chains Step 2: Gather people who love breaking chains Step 3: Turn "chain-breaker" into who you are, not what you use Step 4: Now you're wearing chains again, but they're YOUR chains, so they feel like freedom Step 5: Attack anyone who points at the chains Step 6: Congratulations, you're the prison guard now

Watching this interview about community and freedom of speech while having been massively bullied by this community for inverting avatar colors or using the word "serve" reveals the trap of identity weaponization. Every powerful leader, every large community built on "safe space for us" - the pattern is the same. Identity becomes both shield and weapon. Leaders speak beautifully about freedom while mobilizing their community to enforce conformity. And because it's framed as protection, not power, no one sees the contradiction.

I hope that soon we will live in a world where such devices will be open-source and fully auditable... and will run a fully functional desktop version of FreeBSD :D View quoted note →

I've been using a basic Mac Mini with M4 for a year now, and It's really nice little device. Mac OS sucks, but the HW is awesome. IMO best basic desktop, completely silent (during normal use), able to run local LLMs, with very nice power efficiency (6.74 Gflops/W), and at €585, it's an absolute banger. Especially when you consider how much the price of RAM has gone up, with 16GB of DDR5 costing €150 alone... image
