Golden Eagle hunters (with eagles, not for eagles), sight hound hunters (Taigan dogs) plus archery and incredible horse riding skills. Travel buck list alert! 🚨 After our near truck tipping scare, we were invited to visit a nomad family just over the way. We have spent the last two nights parked next to their yurt, sharing meals with them, going on horse treks in to the upper forests and generally just observing a nomadic way of life in the Assy Plateau. Tonight we had lamb…that we watched them select and slaughter earlier in the day. It’s so uncommon to the western world, but it’s good to know where your food comes from. And, what we have noticed - they produce very little trash… because there are no shops, there’s no packaging, they live from what they have here and everything gets used. And their carbon footprint is almost non-existent. Us “civilised” westerners could learn a thing or two from them about saving the planet, because we’re certainly not the enlightened ones. #travelgoals #alternativeliving #lifeoffroad

Let’s just say yesterday didn’t go entirely to plan… But we got back on the flat with no damage to anything except pride and confidence. And bank balance having paid for a recovery truck to come and help stabilise as we drove out. #lifeoffroad #allswellthatendswell

Had a very good haircut in Almaty - first time I’ve had my hair cut abroad while we’ve been on the road. Still can’t find anywhere that will take payments in SATs out here. Rudely awoken at 5am this morning by the truck rocking. Turns out a Mercedes Sprinter had been trying to make a turn, misjudged their tail swing and whipped the back of their van in to the tail lift that holds the bikes. Jess suggested I get out and see if there’s any damage. Instead I looked outside, saw the van and where his damage was and realised we’d have little to no damage because sprinter van vs solid steel with angles is no competition. Turns out he’s broken a rear reflector. Found out later, his damage was “significant”… which is what you get if you crash in to a parked 15t truck! #overlandlife #globaladventure #alternativeliving
