Found in the Lower Caucus mountains it connects the historical spa town Sairme (famous for delightful hot springs and a spa complex) and Abastumani, home of the Russian Grand Duke George Alexandrovich, third son of Emperor Alexander III. It’s also home to the first astrophysical observatory of the Soviet Union, found in the early 1930s. And you can even take a tour there and see the original Zeiss telescope from 1935, that still functions! GN Nostr We made it in to Georgia! After about 4hrs at the border crossing where the truck was x-rayed and then searched, we were allowed in! In truth a lot of the delay was that there were a lot of freight trucks and whoever was making decisions about what to x-ray pretty much send every single vehicle to the x-ray machine (much to the annoyance of the machine operators 🤣) Post border the road is less road and more challenging off-road track with potholes big enough to be paddling pools when it rains. But we’re now parked up in our little convoy and one more of our merry band has signed up to Nostr… go give @Nomadio a follow! Tomorrow will be a slow day in the wilds before we head in to town and I find my first place to try and spend some SATs. I’m thinking a haircut might be a good place to start as it’s getting pretty long 🤣 #borderlesscurrency #overlandlife

GM Nostr 🌅 Today is a big day… it’s new country day! We’ll be leaving Turkey, after nearly 3 months here, and crossing in to Georgia. This will be country number 22 for Isla, Otis and Bebe (the truck) and country 103 for me. We don’t know how many countries Jess has visited because she hasn’t counted them up yet 🤣 Looking at @BTC Map it seems we might have some chance to use some SATs in Georgia, including at fuel stations, or maybe just for me to get a haircut as we’d need a LOT of SATs to fill the truck tank 🤣 if it works though, it’ll be a nice test of borderless currency, and if everywhere would take SATs it would make travel so much easier.
