This is us. In our happy place. Exploring unseen parts of the world in our expedition truck home on wheels. Chasing adventure, learning on the road and spending quality family time together as a unit. The home is small, but the garden is enormous. Want to know more about this lifestyle, the pros and cons of life on the road or the challenges it presents? Feel free to ask! #roadschooling #overlandlife #alternativelifestyle #expeditionfamily image

The most painful part of living in an expedition truck… putting fuel in! But… since we’ve just got in to Turkey, it’s cheaper than Greece and MUCH cheaper than England! 🙌 #zapsforfuel #notallpositives #alternativelifestyle #lifeontheroad #overlandfamily

GM Nostr 🌅 I’ve previously mentioned wind farms as great places to hunt out and park at night, but we’re also seemingly developing quite a line on finding disused quarries too. Do you have questions about this lifestyle, or the truck etc etc etc? If so, let us know and we’ll happily answer them! Kavala, Greece. #alternativelifstyle #offgridliving #truckstr #overland image

I took a boat trip out on to Lake Kerkini this moring to see and photograph the Dalmatian Pelicans. They’re such interesting birds with that tuft of hair, ridiculous, big bills and amazing eyes. And they look so menacing when they stare straight at you! They’re also the largest pelican species and quite probably the largest freshwater bird in the world, weighing in around 9.5kg with a wingspan to rival some of the albatrosses. They’re listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN list and their population is still decreasing due to exploitation at all life stages. It’s estimated there are 3000-5000 breeding pairs left. In Mongolian markets for example, the going rate for a Dalmatian Pelican bill is 10 horses and 30 sheep. While Lake Kerkini is not their largest population (that’s Lake Prespa on the border of Greece and Albania) there is still a good population here, that given the efforts of locals who run boat trips to see them and conservation efforts to provide breeding and nesting platforms on the lake, is holding steady. #environmentalawareness #seetheworldwithdifferenteyes #wildlife #photography #decentralisedliving image

This is our last 12months of travelling overland as a family in our truck. There has been adventures and experiences that will last for a lifetime… the real question is, what do the next 12 months hold for us and where are we going? #worldadvenutre #overlandfamily #decentralised

Flashback to nearly a year ago, parked under a spectacular sand dune in Western Sahara with nobody else for miles. It was so glorious we spent several nights there just relaxing and exploring. #offgridlifestyle #familyadventures #decentralisedlife #photography image

Outdoor cooking is one if life’s joys. Sure we have an induction hob inside and a lot of battery power (10kW of Victron Lithium Ion) and 2kW of solar panels on the roof, but in the winter, when the sun is low in the sky, solar yield is reduced so often if we’re having something simple, we’ll crack out a gas camping stove and cook on that. The number of times that’s lead to people coming over to chat to us, which is one of the best things about overlanding, is countless. And, getting the gas stove out makes it feel, just for a little, like getting back to camping roots too! Tonight… mushroom risotto! #outdoorliving image

GM Nostr 🌅 This morning’s view is definitely better than yesterday’s Lidl car park… but no fresh croissants today! Yin\Yang 🤣 Life on the road is ever changing and it’s that change and the new experiences you have to embrace. #overlandlife #morningviews

It’s not all insta-perfect park-ups and blissful solitude. Sometimes you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth. #overlandrealities #pictureperfectparkup

GM Nostr 🌅 Meet one of the gang! This is Otis the furry noise maker. He’s our 5 year old Hungarian Vizsla. Otis loves adventure! Every day is new set of smells, new rocks to pee on and new people and dogs to meet. Compared to when we lived in London and he went to the same park each day for walks, he is now living his best life. #dogstr #overlandfamily #expeditiontruck image

It doesn’t always go to plan! Driving around the world in an expedition truck has its share of challenges too. In this case an unexpectedly boggy section of track, not far from Meteora in Greece, that required 6hrs of digging to free ourselves. Top tip - in whatever vehicle you’re driving, if you ever get stuck in sand or mud, reducing your tyre pressures is the very best tool in your arsenal to getting yourself out. It increases the contact patch of the tyre so there is more traction and lower ground pressure as the weight is spread over a larger area. #overlandlife #alternativelifestyle #stucktruck

The Gorafe Desert, Spain. A seemingly unknown spot to many that’s far less famous than its illustrious northern cousin Bardenas Real, but is arguably even more spectacular. Reminiscent of the scenery in classic spaghetti westerns, there’s a good reason why - many of them were filmed in and around that part of Spain as opposed to in Texas or its surrounding areas. If you’re in Spain, this area is rich in megalithic history too, in fact it’s home to some of the oldest human settlements in the Iberian peninsula. #globalexploration #offgridlife #decentralisedliving #photography image

GM Nostr 🌅 Why do we live in a truck? There are many reasons. In no particular order: Family time - we spend all our time together watching Isla (4) grow and explore the world. Teaching her about the world and seeing her experience different cultures and ways of life. Financial stability - sure we could live in a house, but then we’d have a mortgage or rent, council tax, water rates, gas bills, electric bills and so on and so on. So we’d both have to work, Isla would be in nursery and point 1 above would be impossible. Enjoyment of life - the world is not setup to allow people to enjoy life. There’s always a new car, new holiday, new this that or the other to buy, keeping people at work and controlled. This is not anarchy, it’s personal freedom. Do we think everyone should do this? No. This lifestyle wouldn’t suit everyone. But would we love to see more people doing it? Hell yes! See you on, or off the road somewhere? (And if you want advice, feel free to ask!) #Nostruck #overland #expeditionfamily #photography image
