Good article on the current state of YouTube and its relationship with legacy content makers. I have to say that YouTube, at least as experienced through my Smart TV app, seems to have resisted "enshittification" more than other social media... In the sense that my feed still shows me, on average, content I'm interested in consuming.

I've always viewed SMB3 primarily as just a "transitional" phase between the linear level-by-level platforming of SMB1 and SMB2, and the subsequent "open world" exploration of Super Mario World that would follow on the SNES.
However playing it now, what strikes me most is the "arcane"-ness of the level design. Seemingly every level has some little trick or secret, or at least it makes you *think* there is a secret room or chamber, if you just know where to look. Sometimes, pipes jut out of clouds in the sky... Or vast underground pipe mazes hide treasure.
It has the feel of a vast and ancient city, where you never know if going down a back alley will yield treasure, or just a dead end.
