I've been on a bit of a kick of watching dramas with "people accused of crimes they didn't commit, and the media spectacle that ensues"... Exhibit A is "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox" on Hulu... Highly recommend, whether you're familiar with this case or not: And last night re-watched 2014's Gone Girl... What I'm noticing as a common thread in both of these is, the late-00's and early 2010's media monoculture is still a thing. I remember there being some "salacious murder" every few months that would be on all the network news channels and dominate the national conversation. I guess that kind of stuff still happens today, but it's more of a local story, and/or confined to the particular online subcultures that connects to the people involved. This... seems like a good thing? Should the entire national news conversation be monopolized over whether Scott Peterson killed his wife?

#asknostr Apps like #pokey and #amber are great and all, but is there any way to not have a permanent notification dot when they're running? On the one hand I like the visual reminder that Pokey and Amber are maintaining connections to a bunch of relays, but it clutters actual "temporary" push notifications that I care about.

"Hidden Levels" is a new podcast spin-off / collab from 99% invisible, exploring the ways in which video game design spills out into the real world: First episode is already hitting a bunch of nerd Venn diagrams for me... like, TIL that the guy who voiced "boom shaka-laka" in NBA jams was the same voice actor for the #pinball game Attack from Mars! #retrogaming
