YIL that Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker, who just signed a bill that mandates a 0.2% tax on companies transacting with or storing crypto, once had five toilets removed from his second mansion as part of a tax fraud scheme.
He had the mansion rendered “uninhabitable” so to pay significantly less in property taxes. He ended up not paying over $500k he otherwise would have had to have paid (until he got caught and had to pay some of that money back).
The point is that the person who wants to make it more costly for reputable Illinois-based Bitcoin companies like @npub1ex7m...vyt9 to do business is also the person who isn’t a fan of paying taxes himself.

I met Pedro Fadida, co-founder of Brazil's 🇧🇷 Bitcoin Amantikir (@npub18fh6...0lzm) at the Bitcoin Medellín Conference earlier this year.
He immediately struck me as a person of high integrity and someone who is deeply intentional.
As an entrepreneur, community leader, and educator, he helps people to become more autonomous and sees #Bitcoin as a tool to help facilitate that autonomy.
This is why he's not only incorporated Bitcoin and Bitcoin-related philosophy and principles (e.g., low-time preference, self sovereignty) into his companies and educational efforts but has helped onboard 150 merchants in the region of #Brazil in which he lives to Bitcoin in less than two years.
I had the great pleasure of helping Pedro tell both his story and the story of Bitcoin Amantikir in this week's Community Spotlight feature for @fedibtc.
Enjoy!

Community Spotlight: Brazil’s Bitcoin Amantikir - June 17, 2026
A feature article about Brazil
One of the most beautiful things about Bitcoin is that we all want to help others see what we see in it.
It makes me believe that humans fundamentally want the best for one another.
I sometimes wonder why the likes of Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and Bernie Sanders never talk about how immoral it was for Zimbabweans to have all this money.

Sometimes I take a break from hanging out with cypherpunks to hang out with regular punks.

Bitcoin adoption in #India 🇮🇳 remains one of the most underreported trends in Bitcoin.
An incredible amount of adoption is happening in one of the world's most populous countries, and it's occurring thanks to the work that the likes of Karan Gill and Aditya Ranjan of Bitcoin Bharat are doing.
Gill and Ranjan have organized almost 100 in-person Bitcoin education events across India, reaching over 13,000 of their fellow countrypeople in the process.
What is more, they aim to educate 100,000 Indians in-person before 2027 is out.
And this is to say nothing of their efforts to teach corporate leaders in India about the value of investing in bitcoin, how they incentivize Indian Bitcoin content creators, or the major Bitcoin conference they plan to host in India in 2027.
I wrote about all of this and more in my latest Spotlight piece for @Fedi.
Enjoy!

Today marks the lowest RSI level on the daily chart for #BTC since November 24, 2018.
Lower than the FTX- and COVID-induced crashes.
Odds are this is a decent buying opportunity. (Not financial advice)
Bitcoin has succeeded.
We’re using it now.
We’re free.
This is something to be grateful for.
TIL that Yankho Ngolleka, founder of BitDevs Malawi 🇲🇼, is working on a “nostr super app” that will enable phone calls via npubs 🤯
Let’s goooooooooo! 🔥
The South African government is proposing regulations that would essentially ban Bitcoin in South Africa 🇿🇦
The regulations resemble U.S. Executive Order 6102, which made it a criminal offense for U.S. citizens to own or trade most forms of gold.
And because the language in the regulations is vague, they could potentially give the South African government sweeping authority to do everything from pushing for forced confiscation of bitcoin to only allowing bitcoin transactions through regulated entities that require KYC/AML.
The good news is that South African Bitcoiners, including Hermann Vivier ( @npub1yvpc...wpsv ) of @npub1zkr0...k6ec and groups like the Property Rights Defense Group are pushing back.
I recently sat down with Hermann to discuss:
⚡️ The details of the regulations and why the South African government has proposed them
⚡️ What exactly South Africans are doing to push back
⚡️ Why what's happening in South Africa right now is a canary in the coal mine moment
⚡️ Why Hermann is optimistic that Bitcoiners will win
This is an important listen for anyone who supports bitcoin and property rights as well as the idea of being able to transact P2P without having to disclose your identity.
