I’ve done that sort of heavy planning before, and it can create a web of expectations for that “perfect” meal in my head that are, frankly, almost impossible to live up to when the time actually comes. An industry in taters… Potato makers are getting chopped, boiled, and mashed up by antitrust. Five new federal lawsuits accuse frozen-spud producers Lamb Weston, Cavendish, McCain Foods, and Simplot of running a curly-fry cartel, colluding to overcharge grocery stores and consumers since 2021. The four companies are said to control 97% of the US frozen-potato market with products like fries, hashbrowns, and tater tots. The suits say that prices of those freezer-aisle staples have soared nearly 50% in the past two years through July. Staple?! No. Value added luxury product. Ridiculous.

Provo, UT. I’m out throwing the ball for my dog on a patch of grass, enjoying the majestic faces of the Wasatch front adorned by some low cotton ball clouds. It’s Sunday, a suburban street lined with deciduous trees just starting to change into fall colors. A young couple, with two young boys approaches with a brownie on a blue plate, for me! The boys throw the ball for the hour we spent talking about topics ranging from raising a family to national politics. I am so thankful the tool the initiative to bridge the stranger gap. I’ll never forget them, or their kindness this day.

I suspect Trump, if elected will welch on 90% of the official commitments his campaign has made. One in ten is still better than any of what the DNC will do with the bully pulpit. #trump

Why is the US even discussing the voting rights of undocumented immigrants? No other country in the world would even entertain this notion, and I would have no expectation of voting rights in a country I was not a citizen of. Ridiculous.

I stopped at an empty agricultural field today with my dog. The golden brittle summer heat scorched grass was disc scored, clumps of straw and dust. Hog weed and Russian thistle scattered sporadically, plants with chemical warfare and grit. To my full color binocular sight the scene was peaceful but plain, inspirational in the way a minimalist painting calms some embroiled part of the subconscious by failing to inspire the conscious mind while engaging it. To her, the scene was a video of Tokyo at night. She darted from place to place, nose to the ground, a tapestry of chronologically ordered events unfolding for her mind in olfactory stimulation impulses as visual clues present themselves to a large predatory cat, or the combination of sight and sound inspire an owl at night. I watched her for some time adventuring through the field. I wonder if at some point humans will be able to opt for augmentation to our senses. I wonder how the world will present with the ears of an owl, the nose of a canine, and the tactical response of a feline. The result seems as if it might be like having the resolution of our eyesight in every genre of sensation.
