Many heated 🔥 discussions going on #nostr today…

#asknostr is this hashtag supposed to be used by questions about nostr or just questions in general?
Anyway, I wonder if you guys use and would recommend some planting app to track each plant’s needs and journaling (i.e. watering, ferrilization, repotting…).
I miss the days we could google for mostly honest opinions…

Speaking of “the old internet”…
The YouTube algorithm used to bless me with really good #ytp content some years ago, sure, it’s been enshitfied now, yada yada, but still, I don’t think I would’ve discovered such content if I were to rely on WoT/friends recomendations alone.
It used to be the case that algos weren’t optimized to keep you inside some closed bubble, which is a thing WoT kind of does by design, so I wonder if/how can we work around that?

Why is it that media shared on #nostr relies on “some dude’s HTTP server” instead of, IDK, distributed over IPFS, WebTorrent, MetaLink or something along those lines?
It seems that the older a post is, the less likely it is for the server hosting the linked media to still be up, so unless there’s some kind of The Internet Archive bot crawling Nostr, these are lost for good.
I haven’t looked into the Nostr protocol yet, so I’m assuming media is attatched to posts using plain links, without some metadata including the file hash, which leads to another point of concern: a rogue media server could silently change the linked media.
I would love to be proved wrong though.
