On the importance of spontaneous curiosity & exploration. "I wonder what's over that hill over there..." "Where does this little path lead to..." When this feeling arises, follow it. Always follow it. Its the path to adventure. Where side quests are found. This is what humans are built for. This is our niche.

The microbiota target mitochondria to regulate their interaction with us. If this signalling is imbalanced that will result in a mito dysfunction -> cellular dysfunction. We know that short chain fatty acids have beneficial effects on mitochondrial activity. Gut health drives healthy mitochondria and the two cannot be separated. This is the holobiont perspective. Systems upon systems. image

If you want freedom, you have to take control of your health. It is foundational.

You will be given a vitamin D supplement, which will raise your LDL, then they will give you a statin, which will impair your mitochondria, then you will be given metformin, duloxetine or pregabalin, and on the cycle goes. Really, all you needed was some sun. image

We are scared of the wrong things. We fear alienation. We fear not fitting in. We fear criticism, embarrassment and failure. How about the idea that we have less than 5000 weeks on this earth? 5000 weeks to do something worthy of the gift of life. This is the way. image

What happens to your ability to uncouple your mitochondria and burn of excess calories or regulate temperature when you are on statins and develop a CoQ10 deficiency? image

Levers pulling on mitochondrial function are impaired (thyroid function for example)

Butyrate is a mitochondrial nutrient. But its never mentioned alongside CoQ10, PQQ, B vitamins, etc. 1) Direct fuel source Colonocytes preferentially use it as their main energy substrate. Butyrate enters mitochondria and undergoes ฮฒ-oxidation โ†’ acetyl-CoA โ†’ TCA cycle โ†’ ATP. Brr.. Very nice. 2) Epigenetic regulation Butyrate inhibits histone deacetylases or HDACs. Learnt this from mr Greg. This changes gene expression in ways that upregulate mitochondrial biogenesis (via PGC-1ฮฑ, NRF1/2) and antioxidant defenses. 3. Redox balance Butyrate metabolism increases NADH and FADH2 supply to the ETC. 4. Anti-inflammatory signaling Really interested in this one regards to CDR. By dampening NF-KB and upregulating Nrf2 pathways, it reduces chronic inflammation and returns mitochondrial prioritisation to energy production. 5. Mitochondrial quality control Butyrate might also promote mitophagy and fusion/fission dynamics so that lowers heteroplasmy.

Things that are basically NEVER mentioned in medical school: - Anything regarding light - Circadian biology - Importance of mitochondria - Biophysics of water - Toxins (xenoestrogens, glyphosate, heavy metals) - Importance of micronutrients

Balanced sunlight exposure increases vagal tone while artificial light reduces it. People underestimate the consequences of this. Vagal tone reprograms the immune system to facilitate anti-inflammatory, pro-resolving functions which has profound effects on all chronic-disease states as well as neuropsychiatric issues like generalized anxiety, obsessive thoughts, PTSD etc.

All chronic diseases have issues with cellular bioenergetics at their core. Mitochondrial dysfunction is the linchpin underlying all of this. Cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, etc. If you want to optimise your health you have to start with your mitochondria. This is what decentralised health optimisation is about.
