"We're fairly regular and orderly about things in hopes that we may be violent and original in our work." --Gord Downie, The Tragically Hip
Last night we made a fortress out of blankets and pillows, ate sweets, blared music, watched a movie, and stayed up really late. Had a blast.
My wife and I have a hell-of-a mess to clean up now. Better do it before the grandparents bring back our son from his overnight stay with them--he'd be crushed to see how much fun we have when he's not around.

Louis CK, comparing/contrasting how different people choose to live their lives:
"You just choose which thing you're going to fucking torture yourself with."
You fuck up your creative voice by trying to tailor it to achieve a specific outcome (i.e. success). If you value originality and authenticity, create for its own sake. Support yourself, financially, by some other means if necessary. With persistence and luck, your craft and career may converge. But don't hold out for it. Hedge against the temptation to compromise your integrity as an artist. Setup and reinforce the conditions that enable you to do your best work.

I'm proud of my 4 y/o for properly using a medical term. And relieved that he will (probably) have no recollection of it.
My wife and I are asleep when the little guy, as he is prone to do, stumbles into our bedroom, still shaking off sleep. I roll out of bed and gently usher him out so he won't wake his mom. We exchange some good mornings and, on the way down the stairs, he asks me a peculiar question. I'm still half asleep. I have him repeat it because I'm just not getting it.
"Why did I remove my what?" I ask him
"Why did you remove your penis?" he asks again, casually.
Now I know I've heard the words correctly but I am perplexed.
"That's not possible. What do you mean rem.... " oh no. It dawns on me. I plop him on the couch and put on a cartoon, "I'll be right back." I rush back upstairs and slowly peer into my bedroom. There, suction cupped to the wall, hovering nonchalantly, inches from my wife's sleeping face, is the dildo from the previous night's escapades.
My son seems to have forgotten all about it by the time I come back down. Later, his mom and I have a good chuckle about it, but it took us a while to be able to keep a straight face when reminding the kid to put away his toys when he's done playing with them.
