If we don't have neutral, decentralized & open-source technologies, then the gap in power between IT people, governments and the rest of society will be too big. Almost anything one uses in daily life runs on software. Not everyone has to know how to code & hack but everyone deserves freedom.
The problem with old tech is that it is centralized as fuck, not transparent, difficult to repair and not censorship resistant.
