The UK government has announced plans to tighten regulations under the Online Safety Act. Platforms will be required to find + remove content that promotes self-harm for adults too. While further details of these regulations have not yet been published, it's very likely that this will lead to increased censorship

The EU is working on a proposal to update rules on data retention. Although in 2014 data retention has been marked by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) as a violation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, many member states have ignored the CJEU ruling. The new proposal seeks to broaden the range of providers required to store data. It will extend beyond telecommunication providers to include social media platforms + require OTT services, like Signal or iMessage, to gather more information
