This is what happens to fence jumpers on our farm.
Every now and then a lamb figures out how to cross the electric fence without getting shocked. Once they learn it, there's no going back β the consequence is premature slaughter.
Last year we kept this promising ram lamb to become our new breeding ram. Unfortunately, he never learned what was best for him and kept jumping the fence anyway. Today was his final escape.
One lesson we keep relearning the hard way: take the consequences earlier rather than later. Hoping for better behavior or waiting out birthing problems almost always leads to more sorrow for everyone involved... including the animal.
As always on slaughter days: Heart and liver for dinner
