Trying a new protocol for handling slaughter waste: feeding it to the hens. First impression: hens are not impressed.... image

This is what happens to fence jumpers on our farm. Every now and then a lamb figures out how to cross the electric fence without getting shocked. Once they learn it, there's no going back β€” the consequence is premature slaughter. Last year we kept this promising ram lamb to become our new breeding ram. Unfortunately, he never learned what was best for him and kept jumping the fence anyway. Today was his final escape. One lesson we keep relearning the hard way: take the consequences earlier rather than later. Hoping for better behavior or waiting out birthing problems almost always leads to more sorrow for everyone involved... including the animal. As always on slaughter days: Heart and liver for dinner

Moved the hens into their summer residence today β€” our mobile egg coop (aka the Egg Mobile). We shift it every single day, giving the pasture top-tier animal impact while spreading manure evenly across the field. Regenerative farming in action! πŸ”πŸŒ± image

GM Moving the sheep through the apple orchard this foggy sunday morning.. As long as they have fresh grass, they tend to leave the trees alone. But it is a risky business. Leave them too long, and they'll eat the bark of the young trees and kill em... image

GM nostr fam Another grafting day in the books. Across my place and the neighbors' land, we've got >100 wild + volunteer apple trees popping up. I'm slowly turning them into proper heritage cider apples, variety by variety. Future generations (and future cider drinkers) will thank me πŸ˜„πŸ» image

Don’t panic; a panic is coming. Checklist for Season 2 of Global Shutdown: 1. Hoard toilet paper (some classics never die) 2. Stockpile batteries + solar chargers 3. Organize a proper off-grid water supply (rain barrels + filters) 4. Implement a low-energy food system (garden + mobile chicken coop + egg preservation) 5. Stockpile spare parts for bicycles β€” especially tire patch kits, tubes & tools 6. Save seeds and plant perennials yesterday 7. Build real community. Make cider/beer/wine for your neighbors. What are you adding to the list? πŸ‘‡ #WWIII #Resilience #PrepLife #Homestead #darkness

Found a renegade nest today β€” 25 eggs! Free-ranging hens are convenient… but not optimal. Time to upgrade my mobile chicken grazing coop? Gotta collect all the eggs and spread their nutrient-dense droppings evenly across the pasture. 🌱πŸ₯š #score #eggs image

If you can't eat it with a fork and knife when it's cold, it's not a proper soup in this house.
