On an “open-source AI” panel today, I mentioned Meshtastic and the beauty of open-course protocols like Bitcoin to the head bureaucrat of the European Data Protection Bureau.
She took copious notes. Not sure if that’s a good thing.

Don’t tell any Greens, but working in Europe, I often fly into cities for the day and fly back at night. Cheap flights and fossil fuels make this possible.
Narrowly missing a Ryanair flight makes you contemplate lots of things in life
I'm now up to 130 discovered nodes on my meshtastic device (now have a Lilygo t-echo).
Made a point to drive around with it for a few days and it's been wild to see where people pop up!
Have chatted back and forth with a few folks in the area, but nothing more than your general "73s" from ham radio and their location
I love this British guy's videos on meshtastic stuff. He's so passionate, so nerdy, and you know he's got a gang of like 10 other British dudes just like him in his mesh
MINT. THE. COIN.

I know many people on nostr are passionate about open-source. Whether you're into Bitcoin or not, many of us have grown to appreciate developers and their projects, fork as we wish, and have contributed code or sats where possible.
In normie world, though, there is a concerted campaign to demonize open-source code in the field of AI. This is dangerous.
There are people now making "national security" arguments about the availability of open-source LLMs like LLaMA, arguing that spooks, spies, and soldiers in the Chinese military are using these models to do bad and nefarious things.
There are active bills in the US House to outlaw any "foreign" access to open-source code, which I fear will only get worse.
We have to take stand against it, and protect and defend open-source for all.
Wrote a long-form nostr post about it here:

Open-source is for your enemies

Seems more like a hit job on open-source AI

stellar work by the Bitcoin Policy Institute on the future prospects for a US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve!
Very much a worthwhile topic to explore, debate, and envision.
Thanks to BPI, we have a blueprint.

Protos should be embarrassed by this article.
TP USA isn’t my fancy, but it doesn’t mean them or other (pretty boring) political groups using cash app or (god forbid) bitcoin donations should somehow be illegal…
Can we just stop with the illiberalism and just let people use neutral money?

Protos
Cash App facilitates donations for extremist groups
Cash App powers donations for right-wing extremist group Turning Point USA and at least three white supremacist groups, Protos has found.
I guess I have to use BREAKING and make other bold claims to make any traction. So it goes
